Does anyone know
WHY you have to drink so much water for some sonograms? When I went for my level II the tecnician said it was mainly to check out MY organs.
Tomorrow I go for my 30 week sono to check the weight and make sure everything is on target (we are having 3D) but they told me I have to drink 24oz and 90 MINUTES before the appointment .
There is no possible way I can hold the water in for that long!!! Is it really that important to get better pictures?

Its to push the baby and your cervix up with a full bladder. I never had to do it past 23 weeks. Id call again JUST to make sure. I swear its just a joke for pregnant women though.

Beth, I have no idea. But I go for my level II tmr. and have NO idea how I'm going to hold so much water for such a long time I feel your pain. Good Luck tmr. I cannot wait to see pics of your little man

I've never drank the water as far in advance as they tell me to. I'll bring a bottle of water w/ me to the dr office and drink it while I wait. And without fail...eeeeeverytime I go they tell me to go let "a little bit" out. Yeah - right.

I agree that you should call to make sure. I never had to drink before any of my sonos and they saw everything just fine. I did have to drink all that before I was pregnant for a sono to check for cysts, and it was incredibly painful to keep such a full bladder. I can't even imagine doing it while pregnant!

Well, I called and yep I have to drink it. This girl said 2 glasses is fine. She said they need a full bladder for better pictures. Iasked her if I REALLY needed to go could I if I kept drinking the water and she said yes.........the problem is I have to go every 5 minutes!!!

I think different places and different equipment is why some people are told to drink water and some are NOT.
I did not have to drink any water for my level II and they saw my bean perfectly.

My office never makes me drink water or hold my pee before my ultrasounds and they always come out just fine.

For my last sono, I was told to start drinking 24 oz of water 2 hours before my appointment and finish drinking 1 1/2 hours before my appointment. I knew there was no way that I would be able to hold that. I started drinking 40 minutes beforehand and finished drinking about 10 minutes beforehand. The technician never questioned it.

I had to drink 32 ounces of water before 20 week sono. Now I have to go monthly and they said I still have to drink the water! 
They said its to check my cervix, once they check that I can empy out.
