Does anyone know about sensory issues/red flags in 3 yr olds
I'm not sure if I should be concerned or seek help with DS. He is 3 and these are my concerns:
-has issues with new shoes (has a fit about putting them on till he wears them a few times) -doesnt do dress up -hats are same as shoes -wont wear a halloween costume (only agreed to wear his soccer uniform) -never liked tatoos -never liked face paint
I'm sure there are other things I just can't think of at the moment. Are these things to be concerned about or just normal little idiosincracies (no idea how to spell that, lol)
He loves hugs and kissesand gives them often without being prompted, no problem wearing jeans or any kind of clothes unless I make a big deal over something like a holiday outfit or something. Of course I have learned not to do that.
What are your thoughts?

Re: Does anyone know about sensory issues/red flags in 3 yr olds
I know when I was little I had HUGE issues with face paint, temp tattoos, finger paints
i just hated having stuff on me that was messy I guess, I dont really know why I didnt like it but I remember hating things like that all the way back in nursery school (3 or 4 yrs old)
i still cant stand having marker/pen on my hands
it might just be a phase

Thank you :o)
The weird thing he likes fingerpainting etc. If he gets marker or something he wants it washed off. I usually just say ok we'll wash it off when you are all done and he is fine with that.

Re: Does anyone know about sensory issues/red flags in 3 yr olds
I think it sounds normal. I worked in daycare for several years and there were lots of kids who weren't thrilled with fingerpainting and tattoos simply because they were programmed to not get messy. There was one girl who would literally shake and scream if you put her hand in paint or something like that- SHE had major sensory issues.
Maybe his shoes are uncomfortable until they're broken in or he remembers a particular pair that hurt his feet? Who knows..but I bet it's just a phase.

I worked in daycare and taught pre-school for a long time, I know the kids you are talking about. He isn't like that, infact its not about getting messy at all. The shoe thing could be an explanation that he once had an uncomfortable pair or something. He is like that with every possible shoe even if we are just trying them on in the store. He has been like this for as long as he has been able to express his likes and dislikes so I don't think its just phase. Could just be the way he is, his like and dislikes and what not.
Thanks for your input. Its much appreciated.

As a mom of a child with SPD those seem pretty minor but definitely something to keep and eye on. From 3-4 is when my daughters issues became much more prominent.

Thank you. Do you know what things I should look out for or how to recognize if/when it becomes an issue?
