Does anyone know anyone in the Coast Guard?

If so, can you share some stuff about it?
My brother is 25. No college degree. Stuck in low paying alarm systems instalation jobs in Tx. He wants out but, doesn't just want to move here to no jobs here.

He is considering the Coast Guard. I personally, think it would be a great move for him. He needs direction and to feel proud of himself.

Is there career training that he could use afterwards? How about where you get stationed? Do they like it? Any other useful info that can be shared with him?

My friend is in the Coast Guard, she loves it. She has travelled the world, she's only 26 and is a meterologist. She worked at NOA in Miami for a few years, has also been trained to fly planes into hurricanes.

She currently lives in Washington DC.

I dont know much about the coast guard but Longisland has the New York Air National Guard: 106th Rescue Wing. They are located in westhampton. My dh works full time as a guardsmen out there its a great job, kinda hard to get into since most ppl stay till there old and gray but it might be something to look into. Good Luck to your brother!!

My friends husband was int eh Coast Guard and is now in the Coast Guard Reserves. I don't think he had much say in where he was stationed (was in NH for a while and then moved to NC). While in the reserves he has done a 6 month tour in Cuba and a 9 month tour in Kuwait.
He is eliglble for college reimbursement under the GI bill.

My nephews wife joined last year. He tried joining too but they weren't looking for men or something along those lines.
She loves it.

Have him look into it. There's no harm in that.

I know a bunch of people in the Coast Guard. From what I've heard there is a long waitlist to get in. Not sure if that's just for this area or for all around.

And I'm not sure about the career training for afterwards since everyone I know in it LOVES it and is just continuing with it.

One of DH's close friends was in the Coast Guard. He loved it. He ended up working at the academy which is in CT. He was there quite a few years but eventually left to come back home and join the NYPD.

My BIL is in it. He was staioned in Maine and then NH and now NJ. I think it can provide good , not ideal IMHO for a family life. Didn't work out to good for my sisters family. You can be trained to be electrician or something similar.
