Put it in a bowl cover with a damp paper towel & put plastic wrap over the bowl. Leave for a few hours or overnight. It depends on how hard the sugar is. HTH

you can also keep it in the freezer to keep it from getting so hard... when you take it out of the freezer, it really does defrost almost instantly... haha now you have me wanting to make chocolate chip cookies!!

if you dont need to use it today , take a piece of slice bread & put it with the sugar , by tmrw it should be softened

For the future..... As soon as I open a new box, I put the rest in a ziploc. It always works for me.

I put one of these in with my brown sugar (in the box) and it did nothing for me. 
eta: Just read some sites, maybe I'll try soaking it again.
