some grocery stores have them in with the microwave popcorn - with other nuts...
others have some in the fruit section..

We went crazy looking for them a month or so ago. The supermarkets only have little containers. We found them at Whole Foods and then my parents bought me a big container at Big Lots, because I was complaining about how hard they were to get.

thanks girls! I found them. They were in the spice section but they were tiny bottles and they were flavored weird (who needs charcoal flavored sesame seeds)? Anyway, I found them in between the meats and the fish and it was a huge container. Strange place for them

there are 2 ways you can buy sesame seeds... there's the kind for bagels and bread (dry whole seeds), and then fresh ground moist seeds for cakes.
the 2 are not interchangable... the moist ground seeds are sold in a bag and must stay refrigerated (usually in ethnic grocery stores... german/polish definitely would have it). The dry seeds are sold in a spice container.
If you need a large quantity of seeds for a recipe (a cup vs a tablespoon), usually that means you need moist ground seeds.... HTH

They are expensive in supermarkets...do you have any health food stores near you? I know sherrys in babylon sells a big bag of them for much cheaper than in the spice aisle at the supermarket. Also, if you go to the supermarket try asking someone at the bakery dept first, they might be able to get you some for cheaper than the spice aisle too!
