Re: Does anyone make anything for holiday gifts?
Every year I make something different, both DH and I are from large families, so we pick names and buy for one person. I make a gift for everyone else.
Some of the things I have done are:
a family cookbook - I collected a bunch of favorite recipes, but them in a binder and then covered the binder in fabric.
homemade soaps
homemade candles
quilted table runners
cookie mix in a mason jar
last year I gave everyone a picture from our wedding that they were in, famed and matted, I decorated the mats with scrapbook elements. We owned the CD of images after the wedding and I have a high quality printer at work, so it really wasn't too expensive - just the cost of paper, I bought the mats and frames on sale.
This year I am making "quilted" ball ornaments like these:

Love the ornament! I made similar ones a few years back that were very simple, I scored the foam ball and tucked the ends of the fabric in rather than using straight pins. I love how the pearl pins look though.

Re: Does anyone make anything for holiday gifts?
a VERY easy and cheap ornament i make in bulk is a painted ornament.
i don't have a picture, but it's so easy. i use the clear glass ornaments i get at michael's. you take the little "hook" off and just fill the ball with drops of acrylic paint. you can use as many colors as you would like in each ball. then you turn them over and let the excess paint drip out. i use dixie cups for the dripping paint.
this year, i have a much smaller christmas list. i'm thinking of knitting tiny sweaters for ornaments from scrap yarn.
as i think of others, i'll add

Re: Does anyone make anything for holiday gifts?
I am using a couple of ideas that I got from Army of Babies and am making some hot drink mixes and putting them in either expensive mugs or mason jars. I am also going to be making our christmas cards and gift tags for presents. I have begun a couple of Christmas craft projects for both home decoration & gifts and will post pictures as soon as they are completed.

I made those paint ornaments with my neices/nephews, we put the tops back on the ornaments and spun them to get designs - the kids thought it was great!!! We did do it on the floor, so as not to have glass balls filled with wet paint fall off the table
I can't imagine making tiny knitted sweaters, I can barely knit a hat. That just sounds amazing! I'm sure people will love them!

Re: Does anyone make anything for holiday gifts?
I make christmas ornaments every year, it's alot of fun, all the women in my Dad's family make handmade ornaments for the family. We've had to get REAL creative as the years have gone by and more of us are participating.
I also make cards and card sets for some of my family and friends.

Re: Does anyone make anything for holiday gifts?
Great thread!
Last year I did a recipe in a jar - Split Pea Soup. Everyone raved about it.
I bought the mason jars in bulk last year so I'll probably do another recipe in a jar this year. I just haven't figured out which yet.

Re: Does anyone make anything for holiday gifts?
I've done the cookies, brownies, soups in mason jars.
I make calendars on Shutterfly for a handful of people that are a big hit. Mugs & mousepads from Shutterfly are fun too. Even though they aren't truly "homemade"
I've made scrapbooks, all sorts of ornaments, candles, jewelry, wine glass charms, painted wine glasses. Years ago I did ceramics as gifts. I've decorated picture frames. themed gift baskets like breakfast, pasta or movie night-those are always a big hit. The harry & david outlet has awesome stuff for this. I usually include a home-made ornament or fresh chicken eggs in the basket too.
I've made decorated tee shirts or bags for the kids. I tried knitting but it kills my carpal tunnel syndrome.
The ornaments everyone posted are BEAUTIFUL!

Re: Does anyone make anything for holiday gifts?
I can do basic crocheting so everyone in my family has recieved a throw blanket and a scarf at one time or another.
This year I am hoping to make my mom and dad both their own "grandchildren" scrapbooks ----- they aren't together anymore so I will make two identical books aside from a few pics of the in it which will be different for both of them.
I also want to make my girlfriend a blank scrapbook, with he pages already decoratd and all she has to do is add the pics.

Re: Does anyone make anything for holiday gifts?
Every year I try to make gifts for my mom, grandma, and aunt.
Mostly they are from my boys.
I have made silver hand-painted wooden ornaments that I decoupaged my boys' pics (black and white) on to them. I trimmed each ornament in silver glitter. Then I used white tulle as the "hanger". So pretty.
Last year, I made photo collage trays. I bought wooden trays, painted them, and arranged lots of pics (through the years) all over the base of the tray. Glued them down, then covered the inside part of the tray with a sheet of plexiglass. They came out so pretty.
I've made other things, but I truly can't remember them.
I love the hanging glass ornaments. I might make those this year!

Re: Does anyone make anything for holiday gifts?
I make beaded bells. I'll have to post a picture of them. They are so easy to make and take about an hour each. You use tooth floss and thread beads onto it and make a bell out of it. I have instructions for it if anyone is interested.

Sadly, no...I never took pics of the ornaments. But when I bring down my Christmas ornaments to decorate this year, I'll take a pic of the one I made for myself.
