Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
we had carpeting and it was hiddeous. We put down some other carpeting and the cats destroyed it. We then put down laminate. Happy with it and it's very durable.

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
Carpeting now, and when we redo the house, I'm having carpet in the new living room. It's so much warmer and softer when me and DC are playing/laying on the floor. It softens the room, so the acoustics are better for TV/movies.

We have pergo, but I wish we had carpeting now that DS plays on the floor and will soon crawl.

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
We have carpeting and its very comfortable but the carpet is starting to show a lot of wear and tear and we hope to install laminate flooring soon. Although we play alot on the carpet so not really sure the carpeting in the living room has benefits.

We have carpeting in the family room, which is where the TV is as well as some of DDs toys. It's right off the kitchen and is the most "lived in" room and I like the carpeting in there. We have hardwood in the living room, dining room and kitchen.

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
We had carpeting in the living room going into the dining room. We ripped it out and found mold underneath it. So we had the floors refinished. I love my wood floors!

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
Our LR is the only room we have wall to wall in. Everything else is hardwood. We did carpet since it's on a slab, but our carpet is already nasty again and I think I will do hardwood in a year or so.
We have hardwood in our den - where our kids play and an area rug with the extra thick padding and it's great like that.

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
We have carpeting in the living, dining and family rooms. Also, the stairs, upstairs hallway and bedrooms also have carpeting (off-white throughout the house). The carpet in the family room is really starting to look terrible so I am waiting to see about DH's bonus then putting in hardwood throughout the lower level (leaving the carpet from the stairs and up). Our family room is open to the kitchen so I just have to decide if I want to remove the tile in the kitchen too

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
Much to the detest of many people on here, I covered our hardwood floors with wall to wall carpet in our LR. We love it. We don't have to worry about furniture scratching the floor, it keeps the downstairs rather warm by holding in the heat, and it's soft enough for people to sit on, just as we did yesterday when we hosted and people sat on the floor when all the couches and chairs were taken up.

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
We have hardwood floor on the entire first floor (living room, family room, eat in kitchen, dining room).
I put hardwood in the family room (tv room) because it is a continuous flow from my kitchen. However, if it was more of a "separate room", I probably would have done carpet. I have a huge 8.5 x 11.5 area rug covering most of the wood floor now anyway! I just think carpet is warmer (as one of the previous posters above said).
I prefer hardwood floors for a "formal" living room, and carpet for a den / family room / tv room.
Hope that helps you!!!!!!!!

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
we ripped up the carpet in our dining/living room and i'm glad we did. i covered the bottoms of the couches/tables/chairs with pads so they wouldn't scratch and it's so much easier to clean up a mess from the hardwood than the carpet.
i just installed hardwood in my downstairs when i ripped up the carpet there and it was so much cheaper than i could have imagined. it cost HALF of what my aunt paid for pergo/laminate and looks a lot better IMO.

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
Our house has hardwoods throughout the first floor except in the living room we have carpet. At first I wanted hardwoods in the LR but the carpet is growing on me. It is definitely warmer.

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
I don't have carpeting and I hate it. I prefer carpet over anything. It's cozier and easier to keep clean. I can't stand having to mop my floors all the time.

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
We have carpet in the living rm at first I loved it, but it gets dirty so fast. When we are done with our house we will be putting floors in the living rm and just an oversize throw rug.

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
We just bought our house and for some reason they have tile on the entire first floor- blue no less! We will be changing it to hardwood down the road but since it is such a large area we are going to have to live with it for now. We will have hardwood in the living room, and carpeting in all the bedrooms.

Re: Does anyone NOT have hardwood floors in their living room
We have hardwood but we did have carpeting. The problem with carpeting in my LR is that the LR leads into the DR and I dont want carpeting in there. We dont have an EIK. I like the hardwood but I miss the carpeting sometimes too. Hardwood and tile everywhere is so hard on the feet. And my poor DS. My older 2 spent their infant/toddler years with carpeting to break their falls. This guy has hardwood & tile all over.

ITA Carpeting makes the room feel warmer and cozier.
