Does anyone ride NYC Transit (MTA)....
and notice that alot of people don't give seats to pregnant women? I'm 5mths & 2 wks now and am showing..and don't really "expect" for people to give me a seat..but when they don't and they look at my belly...it kind of irks me. I noticed chivalry is DEAD these days.

OMG totally. Re: Does anyone ride NYC Transit (MTA)....
Friends have told me it is rare to get offered a seat, and when someone does, it is almost always a woman or an older man (who may need the seat himself).
I'm not noticeably pregnant yet, so I guess I will have this joy to experience.
One time I was on a bus, and a father got on with a baby, stroller, and two other young children. There were no seats, so I gave him mine. There were all of these young, healthy looking men sitting around me, so he started yelling at them, telling them they should be ashamed of themselves for letting a woman give up her seat!

Chivalry is dead and no one seems to care. I have yelled too at the younger kids on the LIRR who do not give up a seat for a PG woman/older or infirmed person. So rude!

Re: Does anyone ride NYC Transit (MTA)....
I'm a regular commuter on the MTA and I cannot tell you how many times I have gotten up for a pregnant woman or an elderly...men just sit there oblivious to the fact that a woman is standing in front of him pregnant and women pretend like they're so involved in what they're reading that they don't see her either. Its a shame! Really!

Re: Does anyone ride NYC Transit (MTA)....
I ride E train every day and I can count on fingers of my one hand how many times someone gave me their seat... as a matter of fact my co-worker had to literally fight a guy for a seat for me on the way home from work, even though he sees us every day and knows fully well that I am pg

Re: Does anyone ride NYC Transit (MTA)....
It really is a shame. Just yesterday I got on the train and was standing and this woman next to me kept elbowing me because I guess she thought I was going to take the seat in front of her when he got up. So I moved..well not even 2 seconds later the women I was standing in front of BOTH offered me their seat..and that other woman was P.O'd!! It's just amazing...even with your belly out..people are just so f***in rude!!

Re: Does anyone ride NYC Transit (MTA)....
I commuted to NYC and walked 15 minutes after my 40 min LIRR ride. The commute only bothered me one day when I was on the LIRR after a blizzard. The trains were delayed and then I had to stand in the aisle the whole way to Penn. Noone gave me a seat even though I was clearly pregnant. I was hot from standing with my coat on and with the crowded train. I started getting dizzy and then I started to cry hysterically. Finally someone gave me a seat!!!
I was only offered a seat a handful of times.

It's so upsetting that anyone would have to go through that. I just can't believe it..I really can't.

I ride the subway everyday to work and am almost 8 months pregnant now. I have been offered a seat only twice, which is pretty bad.

Same here - in the middle of my 8th month and so far I have only been offered a seat a handful of times. I know when I step on that train that I am making the decision to stand if there are no seats and I don't expect anyone to get up although I would appreciate it. What bothers me is that when there is a seat and I sit the people near me sometime huff an puff as if they were entitled to have an open seat for their convenience.
Last week a guy got on the train (we were all standing) and asked me if I wanted a seat because he would get me one. That was really sweet but I was one stop away so not worth him getting all worked up.

Re: Does anyone ride NYC Transit (MTA)....
I guy recently pushed me out of the way as I was slowly trying to sit down. I'm 36 weeks and sorry, but my agility and speed have slowed down quite a bit. But some really nice gentlemen saw what happened and quickly got up and gave me his seat. I was really peeved what that first guy did.....some ppl just have no class these days.

I understand why you didn't take him up on the offer -- but if what he was planning was anything like what I saw once it would have been worth it for a laugh.
I was standing on a crowde 6 train once and a visibly pregnant and uncomfortable woman came on -- no one offered her a seat, so finally this older man standing near her announces to the train, "Excuse me ladies and gentlemen, this woman is pregnant and needs to sit down. Now who among y'all is going to give one to her?"
A couple of people glared at him, but more than one young and perfectly able bodied guys got up, really quickly and embarrassed. And he just went right on talking about how they should have stood up sooner. The pregnant woman was so embarrassed, but it was priceless.

Re: Does anyone ride NYC Transit (MTA)....
I only ride the subway one day a week (the 6 train and 7 train) and actually, I've been offered a seat just about every time. . . and almost every time it's been a young male (high school or college age) offering. It's been very nice to see - but I am not really riding the train during rush hour so who knows if it would be different.

People didn't give up their seat on the bus or subway when I was 9 months pregnant. I was HUGE and they would act like they didn't even notice

Re: Does anyone ride NYC Transit (MTA)....
This is what I did when I went to the City a few weeks ago and some people stared at my belly but did not get up.
The minute an empty seat emptied next to them... I sat VERY "un-lady" like and pushed them in the way with a "oh sorry!"...

Re: Does anyone ride NYC Transit (MTA)....
Yeah it's really annoying. I do not have high hopes of getting a seat when I start to show.
Another thing that bothers me is when I see a woman carrying a stroller up or down the stairs and no one helps. So rude....
