I'm not working today, but my husband is and he isn't taking the whole day off, just going in a little late.

Re: Does anyone take off work for their child's first day of school?

I plan on working from home tomorrow, so I'll only be taking a few hours "off" from work. DW is a SAHM, so she'll be home as well.

I did it for DS's first day of Kindergarten as well. Not for 1st or 2nd grade, though. I don't plan on taking off for the 1st day of school next year, either. My next day that I plan to take off for them starting school is college.

I was there for the first and second days of kindergarten for both boys. I am home this year because I am laid off.. but I would have taken off anyway because my best friend is a teacher and I will represent this year as her youngest daughter heads off to Kindergarten!

We both happen to be off this year. We would have taken off though.

I feel so bad for the teachers, it never occurred to me that you guys can't be there. Chat Icon

I don't take off work but I adjust my work schedule around their school (bus) schedule now so I see them off and meet them at the bus stop.

I try to drop off and pick up the first week. I don't feel the need to take the whole day off, so I'm working from home today, Thursday and Friday. I'm going out of town tomorrow for work, so my inlaws will drop off and pick up.

It worked out that DS#1's first day was a conference day for me...so i went in late Chat Icon (missed the breakfast and opening remarks...nothing serious)

This year I'm on maternity, so I'm loving it!

DH is working from home today so we both could be there to drop him off at school. I am taking half day off so I can pick him up right after school. From tom, DS wants to go on the school bus-my little guy has grown up Chat Icon

Re: Does anyone take off work for their child's first day of school?

Nope. Once they are at school, there is no reason for me to be home and because my youngest will go to after-care the rest of the year, not sure why he would take the bus home the 1st day.

Re: Does anyone take off work for their child's first day of school?

No, but only because my hours are set according to her schedule. So I will be there to put her on and off the bus. Otherwise...yes i would take off.
