Does anyone use the Roku digital video player for instant-watch Netflix shows/movies?

DH and I are tired (that's an understatement!) of dealing with Time Warner Cable. The service is terrible, and the customer service is ten times worse. We can't deal with it anymore...it's not worth our hard-earned money and we don't watch most stuff on television anyway.

Our 'hood doesn't have Fios yet and we're not in the mood to look into satellite, only to find that we'll possibly still have poor service PLUS a satellite stuck on the roof.

That being said, we're highly considering just doing the Netflix thing, and having an HD antennae for the times when we want to watch stuff on the local channels.

Does anyone use the Roku Digital Video Player, which allows you to stream on-demand through Netflix? Thoughts/reviews?

(We've been thinking about upgrading our video game console, since a few of those will also double as an on-demand system for Netflix, but neither of us are avid gamers and the Roku is about $100+ cheaper than upgrading the video game system)

Thanks!

roku is a good choice.
i would do your homework and compare netflix to hulu+ as both need monthly fees. Hulu is more tv based while netflix is more movie based.

roku comes in sd and hd. You can probally find it cheapier then 100 bucks.

Yes, you can double your game machine for a player. PS3 has both netflix and hulu+ while xbox 360 just has netflix. Wii has netflix but you will only get SD shows.

We have it. Have had it for about 2 years. Never an issue they always update it. Dh is a software engineer and has found a few bugs with it. But to non programmers you would never know. Totally worth it.

We use our Wii.

I think you're better off getting something that's going to do more than just play digital videos - like a gaming system (if you'll use it). Even if you buy a used one...

Thanks for the insight, everyone! Much appreciated. Looks like the Roku is what we are going with, as we really won't get very much use out of a new video game system.

I will be looking into the hulu+ as well.

Thanks again!
