Does anyone's baby do this?
From day 1, Liam - if he's restless - will continuously spit out his pacifer. When he does, he flips out - either cries or gets really fussy. Dh or I will put it back in his mouth only to have him spit it out literally seconds later. It is not a matter of him not knowing how to suck on it. He can suck on it just fine most of the time!! The pedi said he does that because he wants to be comforted and the paci just ain't cutting it at the moment for him (ie: wants to be held). OK makes sense. But today I had to drive to the doctors and he pulled this! And he's pulled it alot! It's usually when I'm alone in the car with him. It's pretty obvious he's upset/scared that he's "alone" in the car, but what can I do? I pull over 80% of the time if I can, I've become adept at reaching over the seat and putting the paci in his mouth that way but I have to pull over, put the truck in park, and take my seatbelt off to do it. Today I had to do it FIVE TIMES in the distance of TWO BLOCKS. Six weeks ago I was coming from my cousin's in NJ back home on the Palisades Pwky and he cried the whole entire way home b/c there was no shoulder and it was 10pm and I wasn't about to pull off an exit. He doesn't to it all the time but it sure can get annoying.
I am wondering if Liam is the only child that does this or there's others that like playing the paci game.

Maybe he just doesn't like the pacifier? James is a take it or leave it kind of kid with the pacifier, he just doesn't really like it. Sounds like Liam just doesn't really like it, especially if he's been like that since day 1.

Re: Does anyone's baby do this?
DD wants nothing to do with a pacifier! I've tried all different kinds with no luck.
In the beginning she would take it, but we had to hold it in place for her b/c she was always "spitting" it out. At the time, she used to get comfort from it.
Now at 3 months, she wants nothing to do with a pacifier! She gets angry if I even attempt to put one in or near her mouth. At night she tends to suck on her fist for comfort, but it's not consistent (I think it's more related to when her gums are bothering her from teething.)

Re: Does anyone's baby do this?
My son does this when he is really mad. Today he was super overtired and kept spitting it out and nothing else would comfort him I was about to lose it. For car rides, I got this mirror at BRU that has a band that lights up and plays music (sorry I dont' remember the brand, maybe fisher price?) it's blue - anyway he loves that he can see himself in it and it keeps him entertained. It has a remote control that I can turn it on if he starts to freak out in the car. It's at least a temporary distraction, might be worth trying!!

Re: Does anyone's baby do this?
When DD would spit the pacifier out while I was driving, I always had a backup paci, right in the front seat with me. I got pretty good at reaching over at the next red light to put one in. Eventually, I got a clip that clips the paci to a bib and it was easier to find when the baby spit it out. At 10 months now, we still use the clip and she'll "play" with the paci when she's bored or chew on it when she's teething.
