Does Clomid IUI w/ partially blocked tube make sense? Also looking for Braverman and Pak Chung experiences?
Hi, I know there are numerous posts out there re. Braverman, but I think it seems like everyone's case is a lil dependent on their situation and wasn't sure if he was good for specific issues.
I've been seeing another RE and am thinking about getting a 2nd opinion now and was thinking about Braverman or Pak Chung.
Here's my scenario.... miscarriage last year, D&C, left over placenta, hysteroscopy, no pregnancy since (been 7 months now and hitting 35 y/o). Saw my RE and he ran CD3 test and did an HSG and he said my R tube may have scarring. He said he can't really tell from the HSG though or how extreme. He is guessing because I got a pelvic infection immediately after the exam, and also had an ovarian cyst removal on that side a few years ago.
But when I got pregnant last year, he told me I ovulated on the R, so I asked how can it be blocked if you told me I ovulated on the R, and he said, well maybe it did not come from the right? (Implantation was on the right side though and he said maybe it just traveled over).
Anyways.... he said he recommended surgery, injectibles and ivf. i dont think i was ready to hear that. Come to think of it I was pretty sure the last time I talked to him, he said surgery was not necessary as long as my left one is good and I can ovulate from that side? So I was confused, hesitant and then he finally backed down to say try clomid first since we have only been trying for 7 months and I am almost 35.
So... is that normal for him to give these options after only one set of bloodwork (to test for pre-aging ovaries he said) and an HSG? And does tube surgery really help? I told him I was tired of surgeries.
Anyways.... so in lurking for possibly a 2nd opinion, wanted to see if Braverman or Pak Chung may be a better fit... or any other RE?
Thanks!

I have one blocked tube and eventually after mulitple failed IUI's turned to IVF without surgery. You might want to get a second opinion. Good luck!

It doesn't hurt to get another opinion, especially if you are second guessing what your current dr is saying.
Everyone's situation is different, but I also had a blocked tube (confirmed after 2nd HSG) and was put on clomid to start. The benefit is that you will hopefully ovulate from both ovaries each month. It's a good first step if you don't want to jump into injectables and IVF.
As for surgery, my dr recommended the surgery as well. They first do another HSG to confirm the blockage and then try to unblock it. Due to my age and the location of the blockage, I was told I was a good candidate so I did it. The surgery wasn't bad at all. It was successful but the tube was damaged and I had an ectopic pregnancy immediately after. I lost the tube anyway. There is a higher risk of an ectopic after the surgery.
good luck!

I had consultations with both Dr. B and Dr Pak Chung! They both are great and either one you will be in great hands.
I ended up with Dr Pak Chung at Cornell & have been very happy with him! He is very sweet and easy to work with. I was seeing him after having recurrent miscarriages. He treated my issues and then would monitor my cycles. I got pregnant the first month working with him.
I know if you need to do IVF, they have one of the best stats in the country.
Goodluck! I hope you get your BFP soon!!!!
Please feel free to FM me with any questions.
