Does everyone get the NT Scan and the AFP test?
Or do you only get one or the other? This is the first time I've done the NT scan, I've always only done the AFP test. I think my Drs office will be doing AFP test, but didn't know if I needed to or not? Thanks!

I believe everyone gets the AFP, but my doc wouldn't have recommended the NT if I hadn't asked.

both the NT scan and AFP bloodwork are optional. From what i was told, AFP testing is LESS sensitive than the NT testing, just an FYI

Same here, I've only done the AFP test before... also, what I did, my doctor's office actually gave me the insurance codes to give to my insurance co for when I called to make sure it was covered when they were going over the paperwork with me. I didn't even ask my doctor if I should have it done or not. When I told her that it was covered she was happy that I went ahead and scheduled it. Good luck, just don't forget I believe it has to be done by 13w6d so you'll have to schedule it really soon!

I declined both but ONLY because I knew I was going to have an amnio.
The Dr said there was no reason to do these tests when I was planning an amnio since the amnio would give 100% accurate results on everything both of these test for.
So it would have been a waste for me...

I had both tests done. Dr. presented the NT scan to me as optional...I opted to do it. Then once I did that he talked about the AFP like it was not an option...so I just did both.

I think they did an AFP at my NT Scan or maybe my blood work-up because when my Dr. gave me my results for my NT scan my mother was with me and asked how my AFP was and he looked at the paper and said everything was great. Back when my mom was pregnant with my 2 younger brothers they didnt do NT scans, but her AFP came back high for both brothers and she needed to re-test and with one of them she needed an amnio, so she was concerned with mine.
