Does this price seem high for refinishing wood floors?
Hi,
I just got a quote over the phone for $4.50 per square foot to refinish our floors. They said that is their set price with or without staining.
I tried to research average prices and I know it varies. I am in maryland and going crazy trying to find someone to do it for a decent price. I don't want to go a "cheap" route because we want the job done well, but it just seems a bit high...

we're having our floors done right now and received quotes ranging from $1.50-$1.75/sq ft so yes, to me your price quote seems really high!

That price seems insane! Ours were either $1.25 or $1.50/sq ft.

Where in Maryland are you? We live in Silver Spring and just had ours done for MUCH less than that. Our guys were great and would be happy to recommend them. FM if you'd like their info.

Re: Does this price seem high for refinishing wood floors?
we just paid about $1.80 a sf but that included installing base molding as well. it is always less when you do more rooms, but we were only having one room done so it was higher than when we had the whole downstairs installed and done. so that seems insane!
and mo--you may or may not want to actually stain it depending on the condition of the wood. mine isn't stained at all--it's just the natural wood color with variations in it. i like the look of a "light" floor with high gloss. (that fades over time but looks so nice when it's first done!). i know you know what it looks like, but let me know if you want me to send any pics.
also, find out how many coats of sealer (don't know what it's called) they'll be putting down. every place can be different.

That is crazy high! We paid half that and we had the floors stained and had 4 coats of Bona Traffic water-based poly applied.
