I have never had that happen to me. Maybe it is white gold plated

I don't have white gold - but the rhodium can wear off after a few years. You need to get them replated.
14 ct gold makes marks on my fingers.

Re: does white gold ever...
My cousin has a platinum engagement ring. When she got her wedding band by accident they made it in white gold instead of platinum. She was wearing it for about six months and noticed that there was a difference in how the platinum looked compared to the white gold (she said it was especially noticeable right next to each other on her finger). She took it back to ? the guy and he realized the mistake and apologized a million times and replaced it for her-- so yeah, I guess it does change over time.

Re: does white gold ever...
i think it depends on your skin - what kind of oils you have and what not. my girlfriend gets her rings dipped every 6 months or so, meanwhile i have never had to dip the white gold jewelry i have..

yes - AND it depends on the alloy used to create the white gold.
A white gold with a high palladium (a natural white metal) content will rarely yellow. Other white gold is made with nickel and copper, among other things.
We had my setting custom made to have a high palladium content, and my ring has not changed at all. I'm allergic to platinum, so I needed white gold.

White gold is a gold alloy, meaning it is a combination of gold and at least one other metal and therefore can turn a goldish hue.
I think the only true white metal is platinum.

Re: does white gold ever...
The gold shouldn't turn but I have had black marks on my fingers from my gold rings. One day I asked my dermotoligist about it and she told me that it was my bodies way of reacting to the gold. She said it wasn't the gold turning, it was just some chemical reaction from my skin and the gold making those marks! Interesting stuff!
