does your holiday decor "match" the hosting room's decor?

meaning, does it gel well with the color on the walls/floors, rugs, furniture etc.

here is my mentalness

we are decorating the mantel and other areas of our living room but NOT putting in a tree (we have an evergreen outside of our house that we are decorating).

we just finished painting our living room a bluish shade (with white and brown trim)

but traditionaly christmas colors are red and green. totally does NOT coordinate.

Okay, that made me laugh out loud.

I have the same issue this year. New house, and my old decorations were purchased with the old house's decor in mind.

I must have put up and taken down 50 things in 100 different places in order to see if they worked on the mantle, hall, etc.

So I too am mental in that I like my decorations to match the rest of the house.

No - I figure they're decorations, not permanent per se, so I don't care if they don't "match".

well I think those shades are neutral colors and the red & greens would stand out over the neutral colors. I think it would be fine. But I completely understand what you are talking about. From the shopping I did over the weekend, they do have a lot of copper and gold color decorations out this year, so maybe you could use those colors. GL! Chat Icon

Decorate with snowman things. That's what I'm doing with my bathroom which is blue.

The holiday decorations do not have to blend with the decor of your home. As a pp said, they are holiday decorations, not permanent.

Well because I am OCD I do match my holiday decor to my house decor. So my tree ornaments are bronze, gold, brown, clear with a little bit of burgundy sprinkled in

I hate "RED" and "GREEN"

- I use deep reds, greens, blues, golds and purples - so everything kind of coordinates everywhere - regardless of the room's decor. (My LR though, is decorated w/ browns, golds, and deep reds normally)

thanks all.

I DO require the decor to gel no matter what time of year. I will twitch, seize, and spontaneously combust if they don't.

I think we are going the white/cream/gold with some blues in there..

now...on to the shopping! Chat Icon

This is what I was going to suggest... or white silver and gold. Check out Target.

I would use silver, gold, white and blue decorations. I can see what you mean about the colors clashing.

Re: does your holiday decor "match" the hosting room's decor?

My den, EIK, and kitchen areas are open all long the back of my house. I decorate that area with blues, sliver, and burgundy. It actually looks really nice to add that deep red into the mix. My formal living room (where we put our tree) and dining room lend themselves to traditional Christmas shades of red and green, so I use them there. Well.... actually I use mostly burgundy and green in those rooms.

have fun!

My holiday decor matches my everyday style.
I have seperate decorations & a fake tree for our basement family room that is much more modern & totally different colors than the rest of the house.

Re: does your holiday decor "match" the hosting room's decor?

My holiday decor gels with the rest of my house b/c that's my style. Meaning, the traditional red & green or burgundy and gold, doesn't so I don't use it.

I decorate with shades of green, turquoise, orange and purple with some splashes of silver, red & pink. Very mod. It would seriously bother me otherwise. Chat Icon

I use blues in my bathroom & kitchen so it "matches" but in the living room I have no problem with traditional christmas colored decorations. Our stockings are bright red which already goes with nothing we own Chat Icon
