Does your library have programs for toddlers?
I am so annoyed b/c DS LOVES to read and loves books.
Technically my library is North Merrick but they dont have any programs for toddlers, let alone summer reading programs. They start at kindergarten. The Merrick library has a toddler summer reading program and a ton of summer programs but I am not allowed to take part in the programs, only take books out of the library. I'm really upset b/c I think DS would love the summer reading program they have and all the activities. I dont even care if I have to pay for him to participate.

Yes - the Bethpage library has a bunch of classes. You can call to sign up or do it in person. They have a really nice kids section.

But do you have to live in that area to take part in their programs?

Re: Does your library have programs for toddlers?
Mine has excellent programs that start at 6 months. In fact, the classes we have taken at the library have been DS's favorite and the way we have met the most local moms.
Our library does allow non-residents to take the classes - they are just on a wait list but usually get in. You are not near me but, I'm sure other libraries in your area might have programs and might let you sign up - I would call them. I know there were definitely children in our library classes that didn't live in the town and the librarians were aware of it.

Re: Does your library have programs for toddlers?
Mine really just has 2 programs for DS' age and with his therapies and bed time we cannot go because one of them is at the time of a session and the other one is at night.
Who organized a jump for joy for a 2 year old at 7pm? Really!!!!

This is where I am. They even have programs for infants, which I think I am going to sign up for.

Wantagh has a bunch of programs. DS loved going to the Mommy and me program when he was a toddler.
When we used to go to the baby and toddler programs people out of district were allowed to sign up for the Wantagh programs a few days after registration to families in the district starts. Link to library newsletter, go to p. 4 for Children's Room

Re: Does your library have programs for toddlers?
Are you sure there is no summer reading program? I really thought that any library that has a childrens' room would have one. I believe that the programs are the same county wide. Can you visit a few libraries and try to replicate the program at home? The programs usually involve stickers for each book read and some crafts that you might be able to make. My local library has mostly AM programs for toddlers. On the rare days we are home during the week, we do not want to leave the house until 11 or 12. I guess there is no satisfying everyone!
