Dog-friendly location for a maternity shoot? (w/?s about Gardiner County Park & tics)
Hi- I'm trying to come up with a nice outdoor location for a maternity shoot where we can also bring our lil Malti-Poo to be included in some of the shots. (I'd have my father come along to be the dog handler while DH & I are having pics).
Ideally, I'd like it to be on a beach or with some sort of water in the background.
I'm in Nassau County, so I think most of the beaches don't allow dogs.
Someone had mentioned Gardiner County Park in Islip, so I was considering that.
-If you've been, what do you think of it as a potential location?
-How bad do you think the risk of tics would be there?
-Do you have other ideas for locations (ideally with low tic risks)?
Thanks for any feedback!

Absolutely NORTHPORT Village Park. Water view, dogs ALLOWED, beautiful and scenic, and low risk of ticks b/c it's a very manicured park and not a woodsy park.
Any ? FM me.
Just bear in mind, it's not a large park and it has loads of people there daily. So you won't have alot of privacy (I am not sure what kind of pics you plan on taking, if you prefer privacy or not).
I can FM you a few pics of the water view if you can't find any online.

Thanks so much! I won't be doing anything risqué' but sounds like it might be hard to get pics without other people in them.
I will check it out, though! I'd love to see your pics, too

We brought our dog to our maternity shoot and got some great photos! We went to Sand Point Preserve.

Thats probably a great suggestion as well. I have been there, very pretty castle overlooking water pics.

I just wanted to add, I would think the tick risk is higher here though, fyi

This is what I was going to say. There is a nice beach that you can walk to in the preserve and there usually aren't very many people there.

Cool - so dogs are actually allowed in to Sand Point? Or is there nobody really around to check?
This would be for mid or end of July.
Thanks!

Kizzy - that's such a great pic of your dog at the beach! Where was that taken?

Thanks! We took it out east at Cedar Point campground.
And as for Sands Point, dogs are allowed. They are supposed to be kept on a leash, but as far as I can tell most people don't follow that rule.

I wouldn't choose Gardiners in Bayshore. It's very woodsy. We stopped going a couple weeks ago already because of the ticks!
Sand's point sounds like a great choice!

Thank you! Have you been to Sands Point? Now I'm getting more nervous about ticks in general. Between this & my dr problems, I'm a nervous wreck!
We use the Advantix, which repels ticks and I would keep him away from trees/tall grass. Do you think we'll be ok at Sands Pt?
