Dog Owners, which is the best vacuum for less than 300?

I have a labrador and she sheds a lot and I need a really good vacuum cleaner.

so far by reading the reviews, Bissell healthy home and Bissell velocity have gotten really good reviews.

TIA

Consumer Reports article on vacuums

Quick Picks

Best for most tasks:

• Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 , $150, CR Best Buy
• Hoover WindTunnel 2 U8311-900 , $250
• Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 35922 , $300, CR Best Buy

The Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 35922 offers the best blend of performance. Choose the Hoover Windtunnel 2 U8311-900 if you value easier handling over cleaning with tools, the Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 for its low price and superb pet-hair performance.
Less weight and lower cost:

• Hoover EmPower U5262-910 , $100
• Hoover Tempo Widepath U5140-900 , $60
• Bissell PowerForce 6579-2 , $50

All three are well below 20 pounds. Either Hoover is a fine choice if you don't mind some added noise. Consider the low-priced Bissell if bare floors are a bigger part of your cleaning than carpets.

HTH! Don't even worry about it. I only learned recently the difference when we were picking carpet out for our house.

We have the Hoover Windtunnel. We got it 3 months ago on clearance from Target for like $250. It works pretty well.

I have one of those "rakes" it's almost like a rubber brush on one side...it's an "as seen on TV thing", I got it at bed bath and beyond...it pulls all the dog hair out of my carpet, it takes some arm power on my part, but it works wonders, and then I just vacuum regularly...I have a yellow lab, so I know you mean, I have to vacuum daily or else I'm walking thru hair.

Sorry I was away & did not see this. I have hardwood floors, but I asked a friend who has a husky & both types of carpet. She has gone through about 4 vacuums in the past few years & said the Hoover one is the best she had. her DH just bought her the Dyson animal & she likes that too, but it is Chat Icon

Sorry ETA: Hoover Windtunnel.

My dad has a golden retreiver. When I lived with him I bought a Hoover Windtunnel bagless model, otherwise I would have spent an absolute fortune in bags... they fill up so quickly.

I don't have a dog, but we just got the Kenmore one GoldenRod posted about in the Consumer Reports article and I love it! Gets up all my hair, cracker crumbs from under the kids chairs, everything! Even the attachments work well on the carpeted stairs, which has been a problem with vacuums in the past for us.

We have a Kenmore Canister with a dog and a cat and we have almost no hair in the house. I vaccuum approximately twice a week.
