Dog proofing a house for a Labrador Retriever puppy
We're just weeks away from getting a Labrador, we have our eye on one who is 6 months old but won't know if he's still available. So the actual dog, and age are up in the air.
I've notebooked threads here on what to buy to prepare for your first dog - supplies and such. We're getting a permit and a fence installed in about a week. We have extra money set aside for all that we need to purchase.
But what tips can you give me about dog-proofing a house?
I had an idea of crawling on my hands and knees and just looking at everything - fragile things that can be bumped into and knocked over - wires that need to be tucked away...
Any other suggestions? I will take ANY and ALL suggestions on how to prepare for this. We are VERY excited but trying to think SMART!
Thanks all.

The easiest thing to do IMO is to buy bitter apply spray and empty a can of coffee and fll it with marbles. When the puppy tries to clmb onto a table, chair, etc, shake the can or spray the puppy near the face and sternly say no, so they know it's not acceptable behavior.
Puppies are going to be curious, so they will investigate everything. If you have any momentos on any bottom shelves, I would move them to out of reach (we did this with my bride bear and groom bear).
Basically, set limits for the puppy, so they learn what is acceptable and not.
Good luck!

GOOD LUCK!!!
Can't wait for pics!! (and name!)
We really didn't do anything additional since our house was mostly "DOG" proof.
Maddie (KNOCK ON WOOD) has not destroyed anything. She likes to get our sneakers/flip flops but she hasn't ruined anything by the time we catch her.
Our garbage is in a closed cabinet (that used to have a baby lock because of Max) but she kinda just looks at us when we put stuff in there ... even steak bones!
I keep meaning to get a water spray bottle because she's started to go up on the furniture and make herself comfy!! And that was a favorite thing of Max's so for years we had out cushions "up" and I just don't want to do that again.
