Dog Runs...
I don't know how many of you have taken your dog to a fenced in dog run, but I find it interesting how the owners react when they go there. I took Misty to the Dog Run at Wantagh Park yesterday and was actually laughing at some of these people. One woman kept yelling at her dog to stop and come every time the woman felt the play was getting too rough, i.e. constantly. Then another woman accused Misty of trying to eat her Maltese, which was jumping up on Misty, and picked up her dog and walked away A man got into an argument with another man cuz his dog couldn't get a ball from the second man's dog. And the best was the Chihuahua puppy in the dog run with eight or nine large dogs. Why do these people go to the run if they can't handle it?

Re: Dog Runs...
That's why I never go to dog runs. Some people are snobby about their dogs --- really, my lab is sweeter than your yapping mini whatever...he will NOT eat him!
I love dogs -- it's just the owners that get to me sometimes....

This is why I LOOOOVE to visit my brother in DC...They have AWSOME dog parks, and very few wackos..there are always a few, but for the most part, everyone and every dog gets along. iI always just wonder why people bring not so friendly dogs there
I wish NY had more parks like them!!!!
I almost want to move just for the dog parks, LOL

Re: Dog Runs...
i personally dont like mixed dog runs.
big dogs and small dogs imo shouldnt be in the same run.
i dont think a big dog is going to "eat" my dogs, but they are like 150 times their size so even just playing (rough or not) a small dog can get hurt very quickly. its just not safe.
i hate it when ppl bring in mean dogs, or dogs that do not stop humping. it gets sooooo tired.

Re: Dog Runs...
we take sandy to a dog park by our house...it is a 4 acre fenced in area that she loves to go to. Sometimes some of the dogs get snappy but the owners are good in controlling their dogs. One time there was a fight between 2 BIG dogs and Sandy was in the mix....well she ran out of there and came and hid behind me......she is pretty timid....

Re: Dog Runs...
I have been to West Hills, but not the dog run. We take Ebony on the trails and it is a great place to go with him. There is nobody around, no one bugs you, and he runs to his heart's content.
I know where the dog run is but I don't even know how to explain how to get there!!

Re: Dog Runs...
The park where we take Sammy has a nice dog run. An Sammy used to love going there everyday until this same dog kept attacking him. Now, the minute he sees we are getting close he jets the other way.

Re: Dog Runs...
We used to live on the upper east side in the city and the park by gracie mansion (carl schultz park?) had two doggie play areas- one for small dogs and one for big dogs- it was very nice- right on the river too....

Re: Dog Runs...
I go to wantagh park all the time with my dog, I was actually there this weekend. I don't mind my dog playing with the big dogs. He actually likes being around them more and is less afraid of them then the smaller ones. I think wantagh park now has two dog areas, one for smaller dogs and one for bigger dogs.

All I know is that the dog park that I go to is a 4 acre fenced in area that has open grassy area and an area with trees. I think they are the same thing

Re: Dog Runs...
That's why I loved the one in Bay Park, East Rockaway becuase it is the only one I know of that separates the big and small dogs. Murphy was usually the biggest dog in the small section, and he is 22 lbs.

Re: Dog Runs...
the one I go to has a large area that Sandy stays in and plays with the big dogs, she gravitates to them (escpecially labs, boxers and danes)
There is a smaller fenced in area specifically for the small dogs bu no one seems to use that area

I was at the Wantagh Park and the people with the Chihuahua pup finally did go to the small dog run - I just didn't understand why they were in the big one at all. BTW, I wasn't picking on everyone, there were a couple of maltese's in the mix and they were just having fun and their owner's were fine. I just think some of the people are a little bizarre in their behavior.
