Dogs and Chewing

I am serioucly going to lose it!!!
We just got a brand new rug and Milo was fine around it for a week then all of a sudden he chewed a HUGE hole in it. A month ago he chewed two holes through two pillows. And last night while I was sleeping, he chewed right through our duvet cover and feather bed(he has been sleeping in bed with us for 7 months before this incident)!!!
We have a trainer coming next week but in the mean time WHAT CAN I DO? WHAT IS GOING ON WITH HIM?
He has plenty of toys and we walk him 2-3 times a day and we make sure to play with him throughout the day to tire him out. I just dont know what to do any more!!!!!

Re: Dogs and Chewing

Does he have toys to play with in bed?

Maybe attempt a time out when you see him doing something wrong. We've done this with Daisy if she chews on something other than a toy - we'll say no, or bad girl, and then ignore her for 5-10 min and then continue to play with her.

Has something changed in your house over the last few weeks that would make him want to act out?

I dont allow him to bring toys in bed, so no he has no toys in bed. When he does something bad, we yell no and then put him in his crate for ten minutes. I cant really figure out anything that has changed to make him act out especially on the "things" he is acting out on and the times when he is acting out?????

Yes they are in good condition. I brush them once a week and he now eats dried food and he actually has 3 chew toys that promote good teeth and breathe????

No he doesnt. What exactly is that and how do you teach it. Would it work when he is chewing on a rug or something big?

Yes, it is the texture that you will steer him clear from.

You take an item, drop it on the floor in front of him, then cover it with your hand saying "Leave it." When the dog learns the behaviour, then you give a treat in your other hand. Eventually, you do not cover the item, and the dog learns that he has to leave it.

Drop it works in a similar way, except when they pick up the item, get them to drop it then cover it & treat them.

My dog gets like that. Increasing his exercise helps.
