Dogs and Pregnancy
My dog is my BABY and I do not think he has at all sensed that I am pregnant. I am shocked by this. When did your dog start to sense something...if ever?

Re: Dogs and Pregnancy
My dog noticed when I was about 8 weeks, he totally flipped out. He started bitng me and dh, he pushed me down the stairs, he started to destroy my clothes and shoes, he ripped apart my pillows, he just didnt like it at all. We ended up giving him to a family member because we just couldnt handle the destruction and agression anymore.

Re: Dogs and Pregnancy
My one dog did almost right away. She is my shadow now. The other one is kinda oblivious. She has been a bit more gentle with me but that's about it.

That's crazy! My dog loves babies and kids so I am hoping he will be into this major change.

My dog was very jealous, kind of crazy, and huge (great dane). He didnt like it if someone sat next to me, and if I paid attention to anything else he would get upset...Im sure your dog will be totally fine

Re: Dogs and Pregnancy
It was extremely subtle. I think that what he sensed more was the pregnancy complications I had. I had a pregnancy related heart condition and he stayed right by my side whenever I had an episode of it. In fact, one time he was gated in the kitchen and I got really bad and he just knew and he was trying to get to me. Usually he is content being gated. This is a dog that I would have expected to act out in a bad way but it did not happen. If I did not have this condition, I do not know if I would have seen a change in my dog.

Re: Dogs and Pregnancy
i felt like my dog noticed early on because he would come lay on my stomach while i watched tv. But he only did that for about a week or so and hasn't done it since. So i don't know.

I don't think my dog has a clue. He is my shadow, cuddles with me constantly, but he has always been this way.

Re: Dogs and Pregnancy
I have three dogs, ranging in age from 5 years, 2 years and 10 months old. Our oldest one knew very early on...she was and still is always by my side, sitting next to me or in front of me...being very protective and loving. the middle one I think has an idea, but her behavior hasn't really changed at least from what I can see, b/c she has always been a very loving dog. Our pup on the other hand, has no clue

I'd have to say the same...she acts the same as she always has, very cuddly and snuggly all the time. The only change is she's not allowed to jump up anymore - but that has become a general rule.

Re: Dogs and Pregnancy
I havent noticed the slightest difference with my dog...I'm sure she'll feel it when baby arrives b/c all the attention will be focused on the baby as opposed to her 100% of the time......

Re: Dogs and Pregnancy
I'm not sure if my dog (also my baby) knows. He's extremely attentive to me and lays with me all the time, but he has always done that. I think he probably sensed something during my 1st trimester when I was throwing up a lot. He'd run to the bathroom to be near me every time. And he does sniff my belly a lot but DH and I joke that he's just wondering how come I've gotten so fat.
ETA: He does seem more protective of me than he ever was. When guests first come over he stands in front of me and barks at them, which he never did before I was PG.

Me too. I have a mini dachshund and he still crawls all over my stomach with his boney little legs. I dont think he knows. He is the jealous type though, but I know that within time he will get used to his "baby brother" once he is born & will be a great protector like he is for us.
My dog is my "first born", so he will always hold a special place in my heart.

Re: Dogs and Pregnancy
Dottie has always been my shadow. The only difference now is when she cuddles w/ me she goes right for my belly. Maybe because it's warmer there?

Re: Dogs and Pregnancy
My dog knew immediately. We noticed that he was a little more mushy/needy and is more protective of me (even against DH, his BFF!) and when we lay in bed, he always tucks himself into my stomach now. When I sit on the floor, he insists on crawling into my lap (uumm yeah he is 90lbs) but I don't really have any "lap" left, so he always slides off and gets disappointed after a few failed attempts. It's sweet.
