Dogs with Allergies
We just took Mia to a Hollistic Vet. She has minor allergies that we wanted addressed. Itchey ears and paws. He advised us to remove her from all foods containing any meat other then fish, duck or Venison. So no Turkey Beef etc and no grains. These are the most commons sources of food allergies in dogs. We already had her on a grain free diet (aside from bicuits) We were using Wellness core reduced calorie and have switched to the whitefish flavor. We have changed to a grain free bisuit and also give her carrots. In addition to the diet change he prescribed 2 chinese herbs to clear up her allergies. It has been a week , she has not been shaking her head like she was but we will see how things go over time. I know some of the people on this board have pets with allergies so you might be interested in her progress.

Re: Dogs with Allergies
Same thing happened to my dog. He had such bad allergies, and after he was tested, the vet gave us a listing of all the things he can't eat. Well, there's very few things he CAN eat.
No beef, turkey, chicken, pork, etc...
We feed him Solid Gold Wolf King food. It's made with bison, salmon, brown rice, and barley. Once we made the switch, there was a significant change. It's tough finding treats though.
I'm glad making the switch worked for you.

Re: Dogs with Allergies
Poor guy! Until we got a dog, I never knew that allergies were so common.
Try the Natural Balance treats - they are limited ingredient, no grain treats. I haven't seen the potato and fish yet but I know they have potato and duck, potato and venison.
If he shakes his head, isn't that a sign of an ear infection or mites? We found that with Brinkley and when we cleaned his ears, boy did we find out what the problem was.

Re: Dogs with Allergies
Your right... Shaking the head can be a sign of Mites or infection but unfortunately in Mia's case it's allergies. Allergies are very common in French bulldogs... but thank god Mia's are not that bad. I Her skin looks great but her ears are the problem . They get so gunky. I just bought the Natural balance bisquits and are praying they work out. She loves her treats and would be very upset if she could not have her snacks.

If Wellness doesn't work out I will try out the Solid Gold. Can I get that at Petco ?
