Re: Doing Your Masters Online
I have taken online courses, and I have to say that while it is very convenient to be able to work from home at times that are convenient for you, I found the workload to be much more demanding than traditional courses.
Typically, the online course is set up so that you have to engage in discussion threads about the subject; you will have to pose a minimum # of questions and respond to others a certain # of times. You'll submit papers and take quizzes and tests too. And, of course there is required reading.
Check out the SUNY Learning Network.

Re: Doing Your Masters Online
I started mine last October with a University from Spain (my masters is to teach Spanish). I have found it very convenient. It was hard at the beginning to read again a lot and to write, etc. It's is easy for me because I'm SAHM so I study when DS is at school.
I have to take tests, send essays, participate on forums with questions, etc. It is hard but it is possible to do and I I love that I can organize my time at my convenience.

Re: Doing Your Masters Online
I've been thinking about getting my masters degree.. I am feeling that online might be the best thing with my schedule..I'm hoping to get more ideas from people where to actually enroll and do online courses...not sure though what I want to focus on.

Re: Doing Your Masters Online
I teach online grad classes for Stony Brook. I do think it is more demanding than going in person, but it is more convenient. You have to be self disciplined since you are regulating the time you spend "in class."
Generally for my courses I don't do quizzes, but there are 3 short papers (5 pages) and a longer paper (15 pages). You need to participate in the discussion a minimum of 3 times per week (substantial posts, integrating material from the text), and lead the discussion one week. Online courses run for 9 weeks.
Good luck!

ITA.
I enrolled in the Masters in Education program at Touro College in Fall 2010. I enrolled in two online courses, having no background in Education (I have a BA in English and was told the online courses would not be a problem for me). There was a very large amount of work...and I received minimal feedback. One professor was MIA and ended up grading on a curve at the end of the semester because she felt bad for not being responsive during the course.
I was tremendously disappointed with the experience and would not reccommend Touro at all. They actually discouraged me from going for teaching

Re: Doing Your Masters Online
MY DH is enrolled in the University of Phoenix online for his MBA paid for by his company.
It is EXTREMELY demanding. Tons of work due during the course of the week.
Plus combined with working full time in the city and family obligations, it is very time consuming.
But so far, so good.

Hey! So sorry you had a horrible experience @ Touro. Im currently taking classes on the forest hills campus for ESL education. I agree with you, not the greatest of schools. I regret starting here but im half way through so its too late to switch out. I hope you find better luck with the rest of the program or find something else completely.

OY!! thats a lot of work!! In my typical grad class there is one 6 page paper and a presentation or 2-3 smaller assignments (these are all on campus). I was thinking of taking an online one this summer but what Im hearing about coursework is keeping me away.

Re: Doing Your Masters Online
Some online classes are nice but there is nothing better than sitting in class and learning from those around you.
My favorite part of my MBA was the team projects and taking in what others brought to the table at every meeting.
