Domestic Infant Formula Testing Results by FDA
http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/melamine/testresults.html
This is a chart of 89 different formulas sold in the US, and how they tested for Melamine and Cyanuric Acid.
Here's the Newsday story on the chart: http://www.newsday.com/business/ny-bc-melamine0107jan07,0,7837866.story
The Food and Drug Administration says the industrial chemical melamine and a byproduct cyanuric acid have now been detected in four of 89 containers of infant formula made in the United States, doubling previously reported positive results. The contamination is extremely minute, at levels federal regulators say are safe for babies.
Though melamine is not believed harmful in tiny amounts, higher concentrations produce kidney stones, which can block the ducts that carry urine from the body, and in serious cases can cause kidney failure.
This isn't a reason to panic, but may be a factor in deciding which brand to purchase next time.

So basically the formula I've given to both my kids is the only one that contains it-- that's great!
Nestle Good Start Supreme with Iron – 250 ml can milk-based liquid infant formula 8267572123 / USE BY 23 DEC 2009 Nestle Nutrition 137, 140

So Goodstart is the only one unless I missed something.
PBM Nutritionals makes Target formula in case anyone was wondering about that one. I didn't see Target Brand specifically on the list.

Oh NOOOO!! And this is the ONLY one that he will take
So what exactly does this mean? Are they going to pull it or will it stay on the shelves like this?

Re: Domestic Infant Formula Testing Results by FDA
Oh ok. Now after reading into it more I see that the only Goodstart with melamine is the liquid DHA/ARA, not the powder. I only used powder with both of my kids TG!

Re: Domestic Infant Formula Testing Results by FDA
Does anyone know if there is a generic formula (or other name brand) that is basically the same as good start?

I *think* Gentlease (and I know Target makes a generic) is similar to it.

Is that the same as Similac Sensitive? I had him on that and he did HORRIBLE on it so I never tried the Gentlease cause I thought it was the same. Plus it only comes in the powder so I would be in the same boat.
I don't know, should I not be freaking out about this? And since the powder tested negative I should be ok with that I guess.

I am not but that is me. I don't know any babies that have had Kidney Stones. And that is what it can cause if the amount is very high, which it is not.
I think they just have to put this stuff out there to cover themselves but I wouldn't worry at all. With DS it was hard enough to find a formula that worked for him. I would never change over a study like this. JMO

Yeah that's my problem, it's not like he can switch with no problem. It took a few weeks of misery to find that this one worked for him! I'm going to try him on the powder though, no reason to stay on the RTF if he can tolerate the powder which did not have anything in it.

Re: Domestic Infant Formula Testing Results by FDA
Thanks for posting! All of this makes me so glad DS is finally on milk.
I don't trust the FDA, but it is somewhat reassuring that most formulas do not have melamine.
Gentlease and Similac Sensitive are both similar to the Good Start formula, but it is hard to transition once your baby is used to a formula. The Similac Sensitive has a lot of sugar though.

Re: Domestic Infant Formula Testing Results by FDA
yay for earth's best organic no creepy melamine.... also one of the only formulas whose sugar is lactose, not sucrose or corn syrup. (takes longer to digest, so less of a sugar spike in the blood )
thanks for posting this!
