We went to Excellence in Punta Cana and it was AMAZING. Would highly recommend it.

This is gonna sound somewhat random ,but were the beds comfy at Excellence? Someone told me that they were really hard and she had trouble sleeping. This is impoortant to me as I have a bad back.

We went almost 3 yrs ago...but I don't recall having any problems with the bed.

Definitely Excellence! We'll probably be back there next year (we went for our HM in 2007). I thought the beds were perfectly fine - didn't have any issues.

Excellence
For a more affordable option but still great rec, Iberostar Punta Cana (they have other Iberostar but I am talking about the Punta Cana one. Not dominico).

Iberostar Bavaro!
We absolutely loved it. It's one of the more expensive of the Iberostar resorts on that property -- but really amazing. They also now have an adults only Iberostar that was only built 2 years ago.

I have not been, but we looked into going at one point. We wanted to stay at one of the following after stalking tripadvisor:
excellence resort
dreams resort
Zoetry agua (this looks beyond amazing!)
majestic resorts (there are 2 of them)
Paradisus (also ahs 2 resorts)

Paradisus Punta Cana 
Loved it so much we bought into their vacation club !
Paradisus Palma Reale is also beautiful
( a bit more upscale) but we love the Paradisus Punta Cana
