Donald Rumsfeld to step down! And now, Denny Hastert as well
I had to read the headline a few times to make sure I was reading it correctly.
Rumsfeld to step down
Now Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert, has decided to step down!
Dennis Hastert to step down

Re: Donald Rumsfeld to step down!
im not surprised. I thought he would have done this last year.
with the democratics taking over the house, he has no shot to do anything.
good riddance I say!

I'm sorry it wasn't sooner too :(
I have also heard that Cheney was stepping down after this election to make room for the next Republican Presidential candidate

Re: Donald Rumsfeld to step down!
I agree with the fact that it should have happened sooner. The only reason he is doing it now is because it will be a Democratic House.

Re: Donald Rumsfeld to step down!
The President most likely asked him to step down because he is trying to kiss some Democrat butt.

I read somewhere, I think it was newsweek, that he was waiting to see what happened after the election. I think he was advised to do so.

Christmas came early!!!!!!!!!
He's a disgrace and Bush should have accepted his resignation when it was initially offered - during the Abu Ghraib scandal.

Re: Donald Rumsfeld to step down!
I love how with all these developments: the House under Democratic control, the Senate tied (for now, until VA has a winner), and Rumsfeld stepping down, that now the administration is saying that there needs to be bipartisanship.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, who had intervened in the past to shore up Rumsfeld, issued a statement saying, "Washington must now work together in a bipartisan way — Republicans and Democrats — to outline the path to success in Iraq."
Where was this bipartisan ethic before yesterday?

I noticed that also...
and when you add the new independent sentors- ( Joe Lieberman included- the Dems really have control over the senate)
I am just so happy at the way yesterday went- and the stock market is up
it almost restored my faith in the world!

Its funny, I sometimes talk to Joradana like she is an adult (she's 6 1/2 months old). I took her to vote yesterday and explained what we were doing, why I voted for the people I voted for, the system of checks and balances and how important it is to vote.
And now almost everyone I voted for won. I feel that we can truly have some checks and balances. I am beginning to feel so positive about our government and about the bright future of this country.

Re: Donald Rumsfeld to step down!
when you think about- no matter what you feel about Cilton - the reason the country was doing so good at the time was it was a dem President with a republic senate and congress
checks and balances- which we have NOT had for the last 6 years
and it's not working!

BIG FAT DITTO. I left the poll yesterday with Alex in my arms, with tears in my eyes, feeling the momentum that day could have, and I'm so enthused that the next day my hope from yesterday turned into a reality... for now, that is!
