Donate books?
does anyone know of any elementary schools that are in need of any books? I have a boxful of goosebumps books all new that i bought for my cousin years ago and never gave to her since they moved away. Now she is too old for them and i barely see her anymore. I gave some to my coworkers daughter and the rest i'm willing to give away. i would like to know where it's going and who is going to appreciate them then just dumping them in some donation bin. TIA

Re: Donate books?
If you can't find a school to take them, what about a youth center or children's ward of a hospital?

Re: Donate books?
I don't know about LI, but the queens library will only take a handful of relatively new release books at a time for donations.
Housing Works - Used Book Cafe accepts donations -- you can ship them at their expense or drop them off. They will take any book in saleable condition -- no tears, water damage, missing covers, mildewed, etc. They don't take anything dated like travel books, encyclopedias, business or text books. Their website has a lot of info.
ETA they are a non-profit organization and will issue a receipt for the donation.

I used to work for Queens and their policy was to accept all donations (I left in December, so maybe it's changed?) After looking at the books, there were 3 options: add them to the collection, use them for booksale, or discard.

Re: Donate books?
I think you will have more luck with a public library, most schools have pretty strict rules on donations and selection policy.
