Do you mean the public bank or your own private donation?
They do participate in the public bank but I don't know much about it because we are storing ours privately.
If your Doc is affiliated with NSUH Manhasset I'm sure the office is familiar with the protocol. You may want to call them or discuss it at your next appt.
ETA: They have a section on their website about organ/tissue donation but no info that I could find on the public chord blood bank.

yes you can donate there .....I would ask the Dr or if you go for a hospital tour , get the paperwork ahead of time to fill out.

Re: donating cord blood at NSUH Manhasset?
WE donated our cord blood at NSUH..
I think they asked me if I wanted to donate once JAcob was born,, I was really out of it and I don't remember much.. First they took a blood sample to make sure they could use it,( which they were able to do) .. The next day someone came to my room to go over everything with me about the program and for me to sign off on the donation.. I have the paperwork in the house if I ever need to use it...
I would definately ask your ob about it if they are affiliated with Northshore..
On a different note, For those who are considering doing it privately-- don't be surprised if you see a bill from your doctor for the actual donation... I am sure the companies don't tell you that part.. and your regular insurance probably doesn't cover it... I would definately ask your OB their fee for this...

Re: donating cord blood at NSUH Manhasset?
yes, I meant for the public donation. We banked my daughter's blood but we're on the fence with baby #2. I just wish it weren't so damn expensive
Anyway, I have it on my list of questions to ask my OB at my next appt but that isn't for 2 more weeks. They are affiliated with Manhasset and that's where I'll be delivering.
Hill - did they say anything about the limitations if you'd ever need it by chance? I know if it's public anyone that needs it could use it but I thought I read somewhere that once it's used that's it, the supply is gone. Did they get into that at all?

They ask you right then and there if you want to donate it. No biggie. But if you deliver during the weekend it will go to waste because the others have already been sent out to the bank. That's what happened to me the first time around. Hopefully I'll deliver during the week this time.

what a shame! I swear, they need to make donating more accessible to patients who want to! I can be such a lifesaver for someone in the future.
