Don't know what to do????
I went for the interview today with the catholic regional school.
It went really well. She told me she liked me and wanted me to come back to do a demo.
The position is for 07-08. She told me starting salary with a master's and one year experience is about 31,000.
I know I would be making almost $20,000 more in a public school. By the time I pay for a babysitter it seems almost worthless to work. I kind of feel I am better off subbing still, yet its not guaranteed.
The school seemed really great. But I can't get over how low the salary really is.
Do I go for the demo? Possibly take the job and back out if I get a public school job? What about the city? I have a committment letter for the city, but then I figure in travel time and train/subway tickets and thats costly as well.
Any insight would really help me!!
Thanks!!!

Although the money is lower, the experience of actually teaching is more valuable than subbing. I feel that an actual teaching job will open up more doors for you in the future.

Re: Don't know what to do????
I taught for two years in the Catholic Schools...and even though the salary was ridiculous, I now have two years of experience that I can take with me to my next school.
I would definitely do the demo., just to leave all of your options open. They do understand that their salaries just can't compete with the public schools. I say go for it, and if something else opens up, take that instead. Good luck!

Now I heard that experience actually hurts you because then the school districts have to pay you more. Is that true? I was told it may be harder for me to get a job as it is since I have 1 year experience and a masters already.
