Doppler
So i rented one of those dopplers from Baby Beat.com and I am very confused, ( not that that surprises me because everything about pregnancy seems to confuse me lately) I'm not sure if what I heard was the baby's heart beat or mine. I did it laying down (like the book says) and found a heartbeat on my right lower side. It was fast...124 bpm. I then moved it to my left lower side around the same area as the right and heard a heartbeat again..also pretty fast but I didn't count the bpm. When I did it yesterday I heard a heartbeat in the same area ( right and left side-but slower than the day before) If you have one where did you first hear the heartbeat. I'm so embaressed that I can't tell the my heartbeat from the baby. Just an FYI i have not heard the heartbeat at the doctors office so I don't know what it should soud like.

Re: Doppler
the baby was probably on your right and you heard you HB on the left. You will know its the baby when its beating 2x your HR. Good luck, it does get easier!

Re: Doppler
ok, thats pretty early to hear the baby!! Try sticking the doppler down by or almost under your pubic bone. your HB is a slow swooshing baby should by much faster than yours

Re: Doppler
That is where I have it. the book said to put it right where your hair line begins.
They both kinda sound like swooshing. I really feel stupid I have actually put the doppler up by my chest to see if I could tell a difference.

Re: Doppler
If you are usign the doppler that low- its probably not your own heart beat since your heart is up in your chest.
If it sounds like swish-swish, its the baby. If it sounds like thump thump its yours.
But if its by your pubic bone, chances are its the babies heartbeat.

Def listen to the cd it will help...
In the beg its a little hard... but the baby will be soooo low....I remember thinking "this cant be the baby this low..." but it was....
Sometimes it takes some time to find him/her....
Before you'll know it...you'll be able to locate the baby and his/her beating heart so quickly!

Re: Doppler
The baby will probably be low down but you may hear it from side to side. When you find the baby's heart you will know it, the 124bpm could very well have been it - in fact I'm betting it was. Did it sound like a little galloping horse? Thats what it will probably sound like. The heart beat will get fater as the baby grows too.
Your heart beat is probably about 80-ish bpm. Next time try finding your rate first even if you have to put the doppler closer to your heart...once you find it and get a bpm for you, then go find the baby again.
I bet the 124 bpm was it though!

Its true- when I was in the hospital when I fell 1 1/2 weeks ago, they couldn't find the heartbeat right away, but I could. My baby always sits so low... even now- and I am 6 months....

I dont think this statement is correct.... I remember as Ryan got closer to his birthday his heart rate was closer to mine....
When I listened to my Cd (from the doppler) it to displayed the heart rate of a 36 week old fetus and it was much slower

According to what I've read and what my doctor told me and what I experienced, at 9 wks the baby's heart rate is slower...mine was 118. By 11-12 weeks it was up to 132. Then after that it balanced out around high 150's-low 160's and will remain about that for the rest of the pregnancy.
The normal range for the majority of the pregnancy is between 140 and 160 bmp.
When the baby is smaller, the heart beat is slower. As it grows and gets bigger, the hear beat increases becasue the heart is doing more work.
I'll try to find the info I read on the Internet about it.

Do you think it increases in the beg.... but slows @ the end?

Towards the end (like the last month or so if I remember right) the heartbeat slows down. I was concerned at first but my doctor assured me it's normal.

Re: Doppler
This is what I found re: normal fetal heart rates:
A normal heartbeat at 6-7 weeks would be 90-110 beats per minute. A strong fetal heartbeat should be detectable by ultrasound, with a heart beat of 140-170 bpm by the 9th week. (but I personally didnt get a heart rate this fast until abut 14 wks)
Here is a link to a really GOOD site re: all things pregnancy relatedhttp://www.americanpregnancy.org/duringpregnancy/concernsearlydevelopment.htm
