Double-Dipping at Party/Event.........

If you are witness to the etiquette taboo of double-dipping at a party and/or event, do you comment? If yes, is the comment a direct statement to the person doing the double-dipping? A generic but loud enough, "That's disgusting" comment? I know there are so many variables here (is this person a stranger, your good friend, etc.) but trying to get a sense of how you would handle this. DH and I saw this happen last night (multiple times) at a party and I was so dumbfounded I didn't know how to react! (Other than to stop eating the dip that now had this person's saliva in it). Ew.

I usually just stop eating whatever it is. Now if I've had a few drinks, I'd probably say something obnoxious or make a jokeChat Icon

Double-Dipping at Party/Event.........

I might have told the person to put some dip on a plate so they could enjoy it without having to go back into the bowl, or I might have kept my mouth shut and not touched the now nasty food item.

I don't say anything. I don't double dip, what I do, is say break the chip, or whatever in half, dip the first half eat it. Then I dip the 2nd and eat it. BUT for someone who didn't see me do that, I could totally be labeled as a double dipper, LOL!

When I see someone double dipping, I stop eating that item and if my family and close friends are also at the party, I make sure to let them know not to eat that item. Fortunately none of family or friends double dip but if they did, I would ask them not to do it. I wouldn't feel comfortable saying anything to a stranger though but I wish I could.

I ask the perpetrator if they've double - dipped. If yes, then the conversation on my end usually follows the Seinfeld episode with this issue and me loudly finishing it with "it's just fcking gross!"

I don't care who it is. People need to know that its gross and to stop doing it.

I know where my mouth had been and I'm pretty sure most people have had their mouths in similar places. No need for sharing all of that in a bowl of salsa.

This is awesome. And I wish I had the balls to do it!

I dont say anything, then again I probably wouldn't even notice. If I were to see someone double dip, I just wouldn't use the same dip.

I don't usually don't eat chips and dip anyway at a party, because I see both the chips and the dips as infected. A kid has usually been there before me, and they can never just grab a chip without touching every other chip in the bowl.

Doesn't bother me, I'll still eat the chips and dip.

Same here, I was eating chips at a birthday party my daughter was attending and had a nasty stomach virus soon after. It made me rethink eating out of big party bowls, which I should do anyway because I need to be more mindful of what I eat. I'm not a fan of dip so that was never an issue.
