Double Stroller Good for Long Walks ??
DH and I 'decided' on the City Select - but I am having a REALLY hard time wrapping my head around spending upwards of $800 on another stroller especially when we already have a 2 year old Bubaboo Cameleon I could use forever and ever ..........
Is there something out there that isn't a monster and isn't $800 ?
I have been looking @ the Maclaren online and it gets great reviews ...........I don't know - what do you all think??

My sister found the Bumbleride Indie twin for around $600 online with free shipping. I pushed it around the mall and it was light to push but it does weigh a lot to pick up and put in the car.

Re: Double Stroller Good for Long Walks ??
I have the In Step Safari double jogging stroller. It is under $200 and great for long walks especially off-pavement. (works great on grass, gravel, dirt, etc). Plus you can run/job with it. There is no snack tray or parent tray but the basket underneath is large. It is def a good "cheap" option if you already have another stroller.

Re: Double Stroller Good for Long Walks ??
I have the double Maclaren and don't like it. When I walk my foot hits the back of the stroller. And I am not that tall (5'6"). It is also impossible to steer one handed. Very important to me because when I walk I am often on the cell phone, LOL.
I ended up getting the 2011 double city mini. So far I REALLY like that.
I debated a longggg time between the City Mini and the Bumbleride Indie Twin but decided that my (already HUGE) boys would outgrow the Bumbleride sooner than the City Mini so I went with the City Mini.
I also prefer the sunshades on the City Mini.
HTH.

You may like the BOB double strollers. I would have gotten one of those if I were getting a side by side.
We are going to get the Phil and Ted's explorer. I want a narrow double stroller and this one seems to be the best bet.

I've heard good things about the Jeeo double stroller. I just sold my Valco a few weeks ago on CL...do you want to get a used one?

Re: Double Stroller Good for Long Walks ??
I also have a bugaboo cameleon that I love and feel so guilty not using. I got the wheelie board for it that I eventually DS will use (I hope). That being said we just got the city select when DS2 was born. I love that it can be used as a single and a double. Both kids seem very comfortable in it (baby in bassinet DS is stroller facing me) but I have to admit it is very heavy to push. It doesn't go over bumps with ease. I looking to get the city mini double to use for walks as I think it might be easier. I will use select for my car. I like that it gives me the option of using it for one child or two. HTH.

if you plan to take long walks, get big, air filled wheels. it makes a huge difference, IMO. I love my Indie Twin!

Re: Double Stroller Good for Long Walks ??
We have the Combi double stroller and like it. It was between that and the Mclaren. The combi got better reviews so we went to the store and tested them both out and the Combi won. We paid $199 for it and so far we like it. Havent really used it too much, just around the house to see how it moves with the babies in it and it was fine.

Re: Double Stroller Good for Long Walks ??
I went through a double umbrella and a double sit and stand...i finally just sold my single jogger and bought a double jogger(baby trend)
I have a bugaboo and my boy was already 3 when the baby came...so i did not want to spend too much.
but i am a big walker and double jogger was needed.
i got it off craiglist for 25.00

This is essentially what we are doing, except I already got the Maclaren double to just get something light as well

Re: Double Stroller Good for Long Walks ??
I bought the City Select but got the 2010 version and it cost a lot less than the 2011 version. I'm not sure if it is still available, but I would look into that. I bought it on Amazon.
There were only minor differences between the 2. I will say, though, that I don't love the City Select when its being used with the attachment for the infant seat. It's a beast and does not seem as stable as I would like. But, I think I will really like it when DS#2 can sit in the second seat.

Re: Double Stroller Good for Long Walks ??
Thanks everyone - I'll be on leave for 6 months so doing a TON of walking -but after that back to work in NYC - so the double will not get as much use. KWIM? If I was a SAHM I wouldn't think twice about the investment - but ........eh.
I think you talked me out of the City Select - I keep reading the same complaints about how it's a beast to push and kind of a PITA .....
I do prefer something w/ air filled whieels though so maybe I'll start checking out the jogging -type strollers instead. - It's not like I'm going to have to manuver this thing around the maill on a regular basis or something ..........

Re: Double Stroller Good for Long Walks ??
I had a Jeep stroller in a single & LOVED it especially bc it had the air filled tires...
Now I have the Indie twin & LOVE it. It does great off-roading & pavement is smooth. I don't think it is any heavier then my single stroller when picking up. You can sometimes score a clearance one at BBB or even online

My older DS hated it too - but the new seats in the 2011 model are flat back and have the upright strap thing so it's much better IMO.
However, I do agree that air-filled tires might be a plus.
I walk in the street because my neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks so the tires on the city mini are fine.
Good luck!
