Double Whammy!

OK, so last week I made the difficult decision to stop nursing Lucas. I was really only nursing him 2 times at that point (in the morning and at night)... but after 9.5 months it was hard for me to decide to stop.

I decided that I wasn't sure he was getting enough from me anymore.

SO, about 4 days after I stopped nursing him, AF decides to come back into my life! Man, it was a good run... last time she was here was Nov 06.

Now I am dealing with engorged, sore breasts AND cramps along with AF! Wonderful!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Anyone have any suggestions on how to make your breasts feel better after you stop BFing and they get lumpy and sore from the stockpile of milk that has collected???

Cold compresses definitely help to stun the milk production and make you feel better too. They say that cabbage leaves do the trick too. Invest in a few bags of frozen peas.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Double Whammy!

Hey, I'm in the same situation...AF and all believe it or not! I was nursing just once at night for a few weeks and stopped for the same reason. What I have been doing is pumping a bit once a day and shortening the time every day. I am down to just 5 min a day and only getting about an ounce combined - and no engorgement or anything. After I reach 2 min I stop. I did this as I eliminated each feeding b/c when I tried to eliminate each feeding w/o pumping down the times it was a nightmare for me - lumps, engorgement etc. (sorry for the tmi) and it wasn't getting any better and i was afraid i was going to get a clogged duct or mastitis!

Anyway - this method takes a bit longer but it has been working so far... i will let u know how it goes when i stop. good luck!!!!!Chat Icon

When you are in the shower, manually express a little milk too, to get the pressure off. I found that really helped me reduce the engorgement.

Thanks Felice! I caved in and pumped a little bit this morning before I left for work... couldn't take the pressure anymore! Maybe I will just pump for the rest of my life!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
