Doula? Have you used one?

And would you recommend it? My doctor suggested it last night if I do want to go epi-free.

Re: Doula? Have you used one?

I didn't have a doula - my sister did -it depends who you get. But I was able to deliver epi-free. I used my yoga breathing techniques and the yoga/exercise ball to labor a lot. Hoping to do the same with my twins. If you think a doula may help - then interview a few and see who may best be suited for you.

Spooks, where did you deliver that you were able to use a yoga ball? That's great!

Re: Doula? Have you used one?

I used one for my med free l&d and definitely recommend it! I ended up being someone who didn't want anyone touching me, or really talking to me, when things were intense but it was still good for my husband to have her as a resource during this new experience for us. She was very calming and ultimately was the one to suggest the most successful method for me to push. Thankfully I didn't face any major pressures to alter my wishes for laboring, but I know if I had been faced with those decisions I would have really relied on my doula to talk it through.

I'm up in Westchester - delivered at Greenwich. I'd think most places would let you bring one and labor on it. Doesn't hurt to ask or we didn't even ask - we just brought it with us that day:)!

I used one and def recommend it! I was able to get through 36+ hrs of back labor epi free. She was a great asset and I think if you are trying to avoid medical interventions you would benefit from one.
