Re: Dr- Concern- He said that if the baby doesnt move by april 1st

wait, is the baby breech?

My baby is still breech, i have plenty of time, but i was told at my last appt on monday if she doesn't flip by 37 weeks i have 2 choices-to try and move the baby from the outside or sched a c section.

They will not deliver a breech baby in my practice.

I will be honest, from my own observations on this board and life in general on LI....the drs. are VERY knife happy these days. In the end, it means MORE $$$$ for them and the hospitals because it's surgery. Call your insurance company and maybe ask if you can see another dr. on the sly for a second opinion possibly....remind them that the c-section will cost MORE.

Why does he think you need the c-section anyway?Chat Icon

The baby is not breech--its just slanted a little--as he said it is "crooked"....my lamazze lady said he/she still has time to move

I just dont want to fall whim to my dr wanting to do a C-section because it is easier

My sister's baby was "crooked" and would not go down straight. They tried everything but really decided on the c-section when all other options were exhausted. A c-section was not scheduled until my sister went into labor and could not deliver naturally. It was their last case scenario.

So the baby is head down, but just a little tilted off to the side of your cervix?

I would def get a second opinion on this one.

There is a sideways breech, meaning that the baby with head on one side of your tummy and feet on the other side.

I would ask what other options are, if the baby is just slightly tilted he/she could be considered breech, but not really, the baby could get into position when you are in labor or before.

I would def go for a second opinion. Your doc could either be knife happy or just airing on the side of caution that a traditional birth might put stress on the baby if he/she isn't lined up properly

They did for my sister. She had broken her water, was in labor already for hours and was pushing. They really waited until they were sure there was no way the baby would get out to do the c-section.

I am only 23 weeks and at my last appointment at 20 weeks the dr. said the baby was still breech and she said they can turn up until the end and dropped it.
I would tell your doctor you want to wait until the last possible moment you can. I wouldnt let him schedule a month in advance. I was head down when my mom was PG with me and I turned when she went into labor with me and she needed a c-section. So that can easily happen the other way in your case.

I don't think that the doctor is knife happy - they are required to do what is best and he may not have given you all the reasons why he would want to do a c-section. Ask for an explanation.

Also, the reason it seems like there are so many more c-sections is partly due to the amount of lawsuits against OB/GYNs. They are sued more than any other specialty. Anytime anything is wrong with a baby, it is assumed that the doctor did something wrong, so most of them are "pro-active" anticipating the worst so they cover themselves.

I completely agree, I work in med mal law, and I think a lot of OBs are considering doing c-sections for things that they used to try to deliver naturally because of the high risk factor involved.

Remember, this is the doctor that has treated you through your entire pregnancy and there may very well be other reasons he is considering a c-section.

I think, personally, that a second opinion is going to be a waste of your time, if you trust your doctor and feel the care you have been getting is good, then I would just stay with him and see where things go. I mean, April 1st is over 3 weeks away and he may move on his own before then.
