Dreading Fathers Day Sunday
My dad passed away 9 1/2 yrs ago. I honestly try to ignore the day because thinking about it just makes me overhwlemed with sadness. I will go to the cemetray sometime soon but on Sunday I dont know if I can. Does anyone do something to rememeber there father on that day privately? Light a candle, say a prayer or something, I dont want to ignore the day but thinking about it just hurts too much if I dwell on it..

Re: Dreading Fathers Day Sunday
My father died in '91 and I can't think about doing something extra on father's day - it just amplifies the fact that I dont have him with me anymore and it still just hurts so much. On a daily basis, he's in my thoughts a lot.
I am sorry you have this loss too.

Re: Dreading Fathers Day Sunday
My thoughts and prayers are with the both of you, I'm so sorry for your losses.
I never had a close relationship with my dad but I just lost my Grandpa last year. This will be our first Father's Day without him and the next day will be his 1-year anniversary in heaven. I'm not sure how we'll get through it; I know it's going to be tough. My Grandma and uncle are going to the cemetary but my mom doesn't want to, and I don't either. I try to remember him in other ways. Usually when the family gets together we do light a candle. My mom put one together in a hurricane vase and we light it for every holiday. We know he's still with us, just not in the same way.

Re: Dreading Fathers Day Sunday
My dad died 12 years ago. After 2000, when I lost my remaing grandfathers, it was really a no day for us.
Now with my daughter, DH is a father too, so we celebrate it.
Whenever I miss my dad, I try to do something to honor his memory. My dad loved art, so I'll go to a museum. Or just get together with my mom and sister and remember him. He would love for us to be together.

Re: Dreading Fathers Day Sunday
I lost both of my parents . My Mom 15 yrs ago and my dad almost 8 yrs ago. I dread this day. I miss them every day, and it really is hard on those days. I remember them all year, but when it is a day like this, I usually go to the movies or watch a DVD. We usually eat in or go someplace that we know will not be crowded. The movie gets my mind off of the day.

Re: Dreading Fathers Day Sunday
This is my second father's day without my dad. I just posted a long post about how much I am missing him. I don't know what to do. I want to stay home. DH is going to his dad's for dinner. I never did that before. Before my dad passed away, we would just spend time with our dad's separately. Now I feel like I am supposed to go, but I just don't know if I'm up to it. I love my FIL, but he's not my dad. I feel your pain. I wish I had answers for you.
