Dress me!
So I have decided to look for a new job. Resume is completed and ready to go.
I’ve worked in a casual office for 10 years and do not own any dressy work clothes. My everyday clothes are jeans, capris and casual shirts
I am seeking a position in an office setting, Prob a business casual setting. What would I wear for an interview? It’s been so long And where should I shop?
Thanks

Re: Dress me!
I always say a suit or at least a nice business appropriate dress with a blazer for an interview- even if the ultimate setting will be business casual.

This is perfect advice. My office is corporate, but business casual, no jeans or leggings. There are instances where we do have to dress in business attire. Anyone who interviews here is in business attire.

Dress me!
I just interviewed 2 women for my office. One wore a pantsuit with a shell/blouse under the jacket. The other wore dress pant, blouse and cardigan. Personally, I would always wear a suit or dress, but was not put off by the blouse/ cardigan combo.
Good luck with the job search!

A nice wrap dress or sheath dress is always good. And then a blazer over it

You can go a little above the knee. As long as it's not like mid thigh it should be fine.

You can't go wrong with a classic pump. Even open toe would be ok in the summer as long as it's simple and classy.

I used to work for a large hospital and my boss, on 2 separate occasions, refused to hire perfectly qualified candidates because they wore open toe shoes to the interview. She was nuts but as a result I would never, ever wear open toe shoes.
OP, wear a suit. Blazer with pants, skirt or dress.

That's ok, but it could make you look matronly, IMO. A classic black, gray, or navy blazer is the way to go for interviews.
You can literally buy 1 suit/blazer and just swap out the shirts to give it a different look. I usually go with a black skirt suit and tank (not low cut!).

Agree. Just a simple, classic blazer. And you can use it again and again

One of the principals in a school in my district also forbade women from wearing open-toed shoes.

What is the reasoning on that I wonder? All my shoes in the summer are open to, strappy, high heeled sandals, and I wear them to customer meetings. etc. I wouldn't think to bat an eye at open toed shoes. (Just please keep your pedicure fresh! )

Re: Dress me!
I don't know about that principal in particular, but I have worked in school setting and a children's hospital and open toes were prohibited as a safety issue for the individual. Also in some very corporate settings it is considered unprofessional. I don't personally agree, but some companies adhere to it. For the OP, I wouldn't go with the sweater you posted, Either a suit, or pants/skirt /blazer combo and a classic closed toe pump.

Yes, we had to wear closed toe shoes in patient areas. But that’s not why she didn’t hire them. She thought it was unprofessional to wear open toe shoes to an interview. She also didn’t hire someone who wore a corduroy skirt to an interview but I backed her up on that one.
ETA I always make sure to have an interesting piece of jewelry (usually a statement necklace). My industry is very straight laced and I’ve always thought it was important to show a little personality.
The first thing my current boss said to me in my interview was that she loved my necklace, which launched into a discussion about jewelry. I immediately knew she was the one
