Dresses you haven't worn in a long time

We don't always wear dresses so often so my question is... What do you do if it's been a couple of years? Do you bring it to the cleaners to freshen up or just wear it?
Even if it's totally clean, but been a while?

Thanks! I realized I have done both depending on how the dress is in shape.

After a few years I usually don't wear it anymore, but I have this sundress from when I first got married, and was debating on taking it to the cleaners to wear for something this summer. It's white so that's why I haven't had much options to wear it again. When I got it I wore to my Engagement party. Maybe brought with me to my honeymoon, but it's been 9 years. Usually after that long I'm done with it, but it's just a timeless, pretty dress.

If it looks clean, with no stains, no discoloration from sitting, no stale smells, then I'll just wear it.
I won't bother paying to get something cleaned if it doesn't need it.

Sometimes I will fluff things in the dryer with a dryer sheet
Put it in dry so it doesn't shrink ,throw it on a low setting and add a dryer sheet to freshen it

Re: Dresses you haven't worn in a long time

I just came across one last week.
I really liked it but didn't like the length anymore. So I took it to the cleaners on Saturday to have it shortened and cleaned. Can't wait to to get it back for an engagement party this weekend.
I've had it for about 10 yrs but only wore 2x.
Maybe I'll post a before and after shot of it when I get it back.

As for your white dress I would definitely have it cleaned before wearing it.

Thanks!

I was going to buy a new one, but I have a perfectly nice white one already.

Ditto. Also, no ironing if you dry it again! Chat Icon

If clean, I would just spray a little linen spray and hang outside to freshen the fabric.

I wouldn't dry clean it if it is white.
The cleaning can turn the dress yellowish. Happened to a white jacket of mine.

Hang it outside or anywhere it can get some "fresh air".

This exactly. If it looks and smells fine, isn't dusty etc, I'd wear it as-is.
