Dressing Cousins Alike for Holiday Photos
Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on this one. I have nothing against parents dressing their kids in the same outfit but it's just not for me.
My SIL has set up a holiday photoshoot for all the cousins, including my DS, and asked that I go pick out something for DS at Children's Place. She wants all the cousins to wear outfits from the same collection.
Now she won't tell me what her boys are wearing so all the cousins may end up wearing the same outfit.
I don't mind them wearing clothes with the same color scheme but not the same clothes!
If you're not a fan of dressing kids in the same clothes, what would you do? Would you just grin and bear or stand your ground to dress in the same colors but not outfit?
TIA!

I would totally grin and bear it. Its family photos. Its a nice thing to do....not something thats supposed to cause tension. Go, buy the outfit, and let your DS have a memorable pics with his cousins.

I would grin & bear it but you may have some serious clashing if someone isn't coordinating.

I think that's weird on a few levels. Why won't she tell you what her kids are wearing? That's weird?
I like the coordinated look for those types of pics, it doesn't have to be matchy-matchy.

Re: Dressing Cousins Alike for Holiday Photos
I personally would do it bc I think it is cute for the grandparents and for family photos, but it obviously depends on what your relationship is with the ILs.
She definitely should have asked you what you thought instead of telling you what to do.

ITA!
I also cant stand matchy outfits esp if there is yrs between the siblings/kids.
Cant she just tell the color scheme? So bizarro though.

Re: Dressing Cousins Alike for Holiday Photos
I personally wouldn't. I don't like outfits that are too coordinated. Looks fake and staged to me. I think it looks much nicer when everyone wears what they like. For last year's Christmas card photos, DS had a Jets shirt on, because that's what he wanted to wear. I'd rather have a happy son in a "non-holiday" outfit, than a miserable child in a matching outfit that he hates. Since the activity is about not being stressed, that goes for you as well. I wouldn't stress it, and wear whatever you and DC want to wear.
Then again, I don't mind saying no to anyone in my family, or DW's family...

Re: Dressing Cousins Alike for Holiday Photos
ITA... it's a little weird. Especially since she won't tell you what her kids are wearing. I know a lot of pple do it, but I won't dress DH and DS alike either. DH's family does all this stuff and everyone says how cute it is... especially my MIL. Sorry, I'm not gonna do it.
You should call her and say you saw something cute at the Gap so you're going with that and see what she says.

Re: Dressing Cousins Alike for Holiday Photos
She won't tell me what her kids are wearing 'cus I have a feeling she doesn't mind that they wear the same thing, and probably prefer it that way.
Last year 2 of the 3 boys wore the same outfit. :P
Maybe I'll buy a sweater from that collection and bring something else with me in case one of the boys is wearing the same sweater.

Re: Dressing Cousins Alike for Holiday Photos
Actually Molly and her cousin are only 2 months apart and I often buy them the same dress for Easter and Christmas and for our annual Dutch Wonderland trip. The girls love to dress the same so it is a bit different than forcing them to do it. When I did a big cousin photo for my MIL I did have the kids in same color schemes- girls wore pink sweaters and boys wore beige ones. If everyone is in different colors the photo can IMO look very disjointed. Plus my SIL would end up putting my nephew in a graphic tee that I knew would look awful in a nice formal shot, which is what my MIL really wanted.

Re: Dressing Cousins Alike for Holiday Photos
Me personally don't like the fact that A) the outfits are from the same line, and B) you cant know what her kid is wearing. So, ME I would show up in something totally different. Just because.

Re: Dressing Cousins Alike for Holiday Photos
I would absolutely buy a two tops that coordinate with the pants so that I could switch...heck I'd buy all of them...leave the tags on and return whatever he doesn't wear that day.
