dry and wet cat food questions--please help if you have a cat!

my little kitty just doesn't like to eat. i've tried so many brands and varieties. i'll find something she eats, buy a ton of it, then she never eats it againChat Icon

a few questions:

1) how many times a day do you give wet food and how much at a time?

2) do you leave dry food out all day? does dry food go stale? how often do you change it if the cat doesn't eat all of it?

even though she rarely eats, she's no skinny minnie. she's not fat, but she has body fat. i don't really understand since there's no other food she can be eating.

anyone know of any food that their cats go crazy for that i can try? she was eating friskies turkey and cheese like a madwoman and now suddenly stopped. she tends to like shredded food--i've tried meow mix, friskies, etc. help!!!!Chat Icon

we give our cat this food

External Image

and I put a little wet food on top 2 times a day. I get these packages of food and I give him about a 1/3 of the package at each time.

I feed him in the morning....I change the bowl every day. Empty the food out and give him fresh. Most of the time he doesnt eat the whole bowl of food. I do not fill up the bowl because he never eats it all. when I get home I give him a little more wet food.

Mine eats Wellness dry and moist (comes in packets)

I feed her the moist 2-3x a week...she goes crazy over it.

Dry she gets the other days. She is a grazer and it usually takers her a half a day to eat it all. On some occasions there is some left over the next evening and I just pour new food on top of it.

My kitty gets fed twice a day- dry and wet.
I just pour some dry food in her bowl (don't measure it or anything) and she gets 1/3 of the can of wet food on top of that mixed in.
I do that in the morning and at night.
She used to not eat much, but lately she has been cleaning her bowl like a champ. By the time I get home from work she is starving.
She has also been known to eat so fast she pukes it all up a few minutes later... I call her "piglet"! Chat Icon

I give her indoor formula dry food and Friskie cans- and she isn't picky she loves all varieties- except she is totally partial to the sliced or shredded as opposed to the "patte" that's like all mushy

Our cat seems to be consistent with Fancy Feast only...which drives me insane because its so Chat Icon

Of course there are days when he just looks at me like I just served him his own poopChat Icon

We give him one can in the am - before we leave for work around 6:30.

He gets a handful of dry food (He seems to prefer the meox mix brand) when DH gets home around 430

Last can of wet food around 700

Cats are just finicky - they get bored easily with the same foods. This is the 3rd time we've switched BACK to Fancy Feast...he has stopped eating it, we've bought other names and won't eat more than 2 bites before he walks away from it so we go back to Fancy Feast.

You gotta love em Chat Icon

Re: dry and wet cat food questions--please help if you have a cat!

my cat has been overweight pretty much her whole life (she's about 14 now), so I never used to have problems with getting her to eat. But lately in her old age she'll go through phases every once in while when she just won't eat. It's been especially scary and frustrating for me since I'm so used to her gobbling down her food and then begging for more right away. The first time I noticed she wasn't eating, I freaked out and took her right to the vet, but he didn't find anything wrong with her and just had me take her home to see if she would go back to eating. I ended up giving her little pieces of turkey coldcuts since I know she loves them, and she actually ate that. I also tried mixing some cat treats in with her regular dry food, which also helped to get her to start eating. Then after a couple days of that, she got back into the routine of eating and I was able to go back to giving her regular cat food. Lately I've been giving her Iams Healthy Naturals and she seems to love it. She's been back to eating her whole plate of food and then acting like she wants more. So for now I'm going to stick with that brand.
Good luck getting your cat to eat!

My cat loves this food.
I put it out in the AM and he basically "grazes" all day long.
By the next AM the dish is usually empty and I fill it again with fresh food.
He will NOT eat wet food at all.

The three cats have 2 bowls of food out all the time - they like the Science Diet the best. The other type varies by what's on sale. DH tops them off once or twice a day.

They ALSO GET 1/2 A SMALL CAN OR 1/4 a large can once a day at around 6:30 p.m.

I never thouht about it getting stale but they don't seem to mind if it does???

Science diet kitten dry is what they get and the love it.

They will eat anything though.

They love human food.

Try a little boars head turkey on top of the food.

Don't worry, if your cat is hungry he/she will eventually eat.

Sometimes I give some wet food but only as a treat.

Re: dry and wet cat food questions--please help if you have a cat!

My cat always ate dry only until he got sick.
Now, he gets one can of wet food a day, broken up into three meals.

If she is healthy looking, she is eating enough. I wouldn't worry too much unless she starts losing weight.

When I first got Sushi, the vet told me to leave dry out and let her graze and feed her 3oz of wet in the morning. Apparently she is too "lean" so I have now been feeding her wet food in the morning and the evenning. She doesnt always finish all her dry and I just top it off. I never worry about it going stale. I used to give her the wellness wet but she seems to perfer the wholesome goodness. She also doesnt care for meat flavors. She only likes fish....except of course if it comes off my plate then she loves chicken and turkeyChat Icon

I give mine a 1/2 cup of Purina Indoor dry food and a 1/2 can at a time of Friskies can food. I leave both out all day so she nibbles. The vet told me this was fine as long as she isn't getting to big in which she isnt. Mine is a finicky eater and will only eat certain flavors.
