Dry Dog Food Rec.. Lamb & rice only
due to the post about Iams testing on animals....I'm thinking we should switch BUT the pups have such sensitive systems.
What's good in terms of Lamb & rice formulas since that is what they use now in Iams. And preferably not too expensive
TY

I use Nutro Max, and my dogs love it. Except they will eat anything but the lamb and rice.

Is there a lamb and rice that you recommend that doesn't have brewer's rice? I just checked the package and there it was. What do you give your dog now?

sorry to hijack, but i've been to h*ll and back trying to find something that austin isn't allergic to.
maybe you should take your dog to the vet to get allergy tests done. that's what i did and they gave me a printout of all the foods that austin can have. it cut out all the trial and error stuff. that can get expensive. turns out austin is allergic to EVERYTHING!! no beef, turkey, chicken, dairy, pork, yeast, etc...basically all that he can have is venisen, and salmon, and brown rice.
if you are going to stick to the trial and error, then you should definately try some type of venisen. it seems to be good for dogs with allergies.

Is venisen available at the pet stores. What is the brand name?
It is. Alot of brands carry some type of venison meal. The one we used for a while is from Natures Recipe. This is from their website.
Nature's Recipe Healthy Skin Venison Meal & Rice Recipe Canine Formula Healthy Skin Venison Meal & Rice Recipe is designed to help avoid common pet food ingredients that may cause food intolerances such as beef, corn, wheat, pork, soy or dairy products. It is lactose-free and contains no color additives or artificial preservatives. This recipe is a wholesome, complete and balanced maintenance diet for your adult dog. It is formulated with a unique animal protein source and provides the same essential nutrients found in diets with beef or chickens as the protein source.
since my dog is allergic to yeast as well, we had to switch to this food.
Solid Gold Wolf King
Solid Gold WolfKing is a dry food formula for large breed dogs made with bison, salmon meal, brown rice, millet, and barley. Includes flaxseed oil, garlic, amaranth, blueberries, and host of other nutrients for a complete, balanced diet.
About Solid Gold Pet Food:
Solid Gold specializes in the development of "non-allergenic" products, which work together to enhance total health, boost up the immune system and protect against disease. They always use wholesome USDA Choice lamb and beef meal, USDA grade I and II grains, and healthful monounsaturated and polyunsaturated oils.
Solid Gold never uses chemical preservatives such as BHA, BHT and Ethoxyquin, which may be related to some diseases in pets. They never use wheat, corn or soy, which are often genetically modified and common allergens for dogs, causing them to have uncomfortable skin disorders, chew incessantly at their feet or suffer from chronic problems such as ear infections. They never add animal or poultry fat to our products, as these are saturated fats that may contribute to heart disease and certain types of cancer.
Solid Gold is also an industry leader in the use of revolutionary foil "barrier" packaging for all their dry food products, which means they don't have to use chemical preservatives or flavor enhancers. Barrier packaging keeps food fresher for longer, maintains palatability and helps to sustain the potency of valuable vitamins and other nutrients, which may deplete over time with conventional paper bags.

Re: Dry Dog Food Rec.. Lamb & rice only
What signs did your dog exhibit to show these allergies. Scooby is always rubbing his head on the rugs. Other than that he seems okay. Two winters ago he had several ear infections so that was when I switched to lamb and rice. Do you all agree that brewer's rice is not a good ingredient? My vet was the one who sold me the first bag of Eukanuba lamg and rice. I trusted his judgement. Thanks very much for your advice.

His ears were infected and bothering him ALL THE TIME. He was always licking his paws too. I've never heard anything about the brewer's rice though.
