Dryness around the eyes...AND SO ITCHY! What is it from??

So last week I posted a RAVE about a new eye cream I bought. I got it on Wednesday and I swear I could tell a difference in the fine lines around the corners of my eyes within days.

I was on vacation all week, and was out in the sun for a few days. I noticed the area under my eyes and my eye lids started feeling very dry, like scaley. Yesterday I went to the beach and BAKED. I woke up this morning and my eyes were puffy (probably from the sun) but also VERY dry and ITCHY like nobody's business.

Here's my question... Do you think the dryness (which I assume is leading to the itchiness) is caused by the sun or the eye cream?

I'm going to post the ingredients of the eye cream here. Maybe there's something in it that may be irritating me?

No SPF in the eye cream, but I use SPF... I will say I didn't reapply as often as I normally do, so that could be it...

I REALLY hope it's not the eye cream doing this, because I LOVE the results already!

Thanks!

I had the SAME thing happen when I went away a few months ago! I thought it was just sunburn around my eyes but they were so puffy and itchy! I was wearing sunscreen on my eyelids plus mascara and my undereye concealer. I have no idea what caused it but I guess the combination of the sun plus whatever make-up I had on irritated them. I drank a ton of water and used a basic moisturizer (the Nivea cream that comes in the blue container).

The good news is, I don't think it's from your eye cream but I wouldn't use it again until your eyes clear up...

My friend also mentioned that she used to get it too when she wore shimmery, purple-ish eyeshadows...something about the ingredients they used to make it shimmery irritated her eyes.

Hmm.. very strange... now that I think about it.. this happened to me like a year ago when I was using proactive... but my eyes were very puffy... now it's just my right eye... Hopefully it'll go away.. I'll take a break from the eye cream and use that Nivea tin.. I LOVE that stuff!

I am also using a new face moisturizer that has saliclic acid in it... but I don't put it anywhere near my eyes... hmm.. it's a MYSTERY!

Thanks for the feedback!

I wonder if there is retinol in any form in it?
Retinol in the ROC stuff made me so itchy, dry and flakey that I had to stop using it.

Also- Retinol and sun exposure do not mix so maybe that could be it..

I get that a lot...the ONLY thing that I have ever found that worked in helping me (after seeing dr. after dr. and getting perscription after perscription) is

Control Cream by Mario Badescu. I swear the cream is a g-d send!!!! They sell it at nordstroms.

I was actually going to go buy this eye cream based on your post - I am glad I read this! My eyes are VERY sensitive and that is often how they react to creams. (and some makeup!)

The second I feel itchy or dry I use the control cream and it goes away immediately.

The ingredients list Retinyl Palmitate... I'm assuming that's the same thing??

Thanks for the tip.. I'll check out the cream...

I still love the eye cream even if that's what's making my eyes a dry puffy mess...lol maybe I'll continie to use it on the corners.. just not under my eye or on the lid...

Yes I think that might be.
I swear it ruined my skin... dried it out, made it flake and itch. It was awful.
And going in the sun makes it worse.
I had to stop using it.
I actually saw an ad in a magazine last time I was sitting in the hair salon for a non irritating retinol product by dermadoctor I think. I want to try it...

Chat Icon but it works!! I'm going to take a break from it for a few days... then try it one more time when I'm not sun burnt... if it happens again the cream is going back! Figures as soon as I find an eye cream that actually works!!

Botox is looking more and more appealing as my 31st bday approaches... Chat Icon

Yes that's the sad part. Retinol works great! I would say try using it every other day instead of every day and maybe try it again when you won't be in the sun- that might have pushed it over the edge.

I am also going to try that new so-called Non Irritating Retinol from dermadoctor one day soon...
