DS (almost 5 months) got his first tooth! EBF moms, please help re: solids.
Brandon will be 5 months on Sept 7th and yesterday his first tooth came in and it looks like the one next to it is on it's way soon.
Here's my question: I've been EBF and was planning on not starting solids until 6 months. Now that he has a tooth, does that change the ballgame as far as food is concerned, should I incoporate solids in his diet rather than just BM now? This tooth came out of nowhere and I don't know if that is my queue that he is ready for something more substantial than BM now. I don't even know where to begin with solids...ped appt is not till 9/7.

Hmmm I am not sure. I would think he is fine between now and your next appt. Defin ask the ped. I know mine likes to keep them EBF for 6 months also, don't know how teeth play a factor. My dd is starting to teeth now. Please post what you find out. Good luck.

I didn't. But I have a view that babies will let us know when they are ready to eat. DS is now 7 1/2 months, and he still is not huge on food. He prefers the breast of bottle.
I say if you want to wait to 6 months, don't let the tooth change your mind.

Ok, I'll hold off on solids at least until I hear what the Ped says on the 7th. I needed the peace of mind that I wasnt totally missing the boat now that this tooth is here. Thanks!

Teeth have nothing to do with starting solids. Babies don't need teeth to eat purees or table food. DS was EBF and started solids at 6 months. He didn't get his first tooth until 13.5 months. He was fully on table food several months before he cut his first tooth.
