DS cries and arches back but no spit up. On Mylanta...anyone else deal with this?

Friday DS started having these screaming outbursts about 2 hours after he eats. Arched back, stiffness but no spitting up. tried gas relief drops and bicycle legs but doesnt always help.

my dr said mylanta 2x a day. it def helps but he is still doing it occassionally. anyone else dealing or dealt with this? is it a short lived thing? DS is 4 months and it just started a few days ago, never acted lik ethis before.

no change in formula or anything like that

Sounds like it could be silent reflux. My dd's got bad at about 4 1/2 months. She ended upneeding to be on Zantac and prilosec.

I agree with the PP - reflux. DS has it and is on Axid 2x/day. He does this every night in his sleep hours after he's had his last bottle even though I have him sleep in his infant seat. It breaks my heart to watch. I would ask you ped about some Rx meds if it is persisting.

Same happened to my DD at 3 weeks old. She ended up being diagnosed with relfux...she is on axid 3x per day now (she is 11 weeks old) and I had to stop nursing due to the fact that I would have had to go on a diet free of any any all dairy as to not make her reflux act up.
She is now on Similiac Allimentum and axid. This seems to work for her. I would say take DS to a gastro doc to get some more detailed answers. That is where we found help.

Good Luck!

If not reflux, it may be possible that he may be ready for the next size flow in nipple...My older DS always got very antsy when he was ready for the next size up in nipple (arching, turning away etc..)

sounds like reflux

here are the symptoms:

Arching back
crying
spit up
hiccuping
gagging
coughing
difficulty lying flat

Symptoms of Milk Pro Allergy
blood mucous in stool
exzema
wheezing
runny nose
pulling knees into chest
constant crying

My best advice would be to switch to a thickened formula like Enfamil AR, and possibly adding zantac or prevacid if it doesn't get better. Usually its the acid burning the esophagus that causes the pain. The thickened formula thickens in the gut and keeps formula down, decreasing the formula from burning the esophagus. SOmetimes medications is needed also.

HTH!

could definitly be silent reflux. I would try one of the formula's with the added rice starch, worked for us.
