DS Gets Up At Night
For almost 2 months now, Michael has been going to bed 7:30 - 8:30 and was sleeping through the night. For the last 2 weeks, he gets up once between 3 -5 am. I give him a bottle and he drinks about 3 ozs and then goes back to sleep. I started fruits with him and he takes 1/2 for breakfast and the other 1/2 for lunch.
I tried 1 tablesppon of cereal in his last bottle last night but that did not work. My sister said to try giving him 1 -2 tablespoons of cereal from a bowl with his last bottle or 1/2 fruit for breakfast and a whole fruit for lunch.
What can I try to get him to sleep through the night again? I was wondering what you girls do or did.

Re: DS Gets Up At Night
Be careful with the fruits, they are very gassy for their little bellies. It could be that's waking him up. I finally figured out that Ava has been waking during the night the last two weeks ebcause she had such bad gas from all the veggies she's been eating. She loves them and wants to eat a ton of them, but as soon as we stopped them, she started sleeping all night again. I'm slowly introducing them in smaller portions now.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind but I don't think it is that because if you don't give him a bottle he screams and cries until you give him one.

Lisa - I remember Julia went through this - it was a growth spurt for her - lasted a couple of weeks - and then she was fine and slept through the night again.

Antonina, that is what I think it is too.

Re: DS Gets Up At Night
I have read recently that giving cereal to make a baby sleep is a myth, so I don't think that may work. I think maybe the fruit may be causing a bit of tummy discomfort? How are his BM's? Other than that I don't have advice, I am waiting until 6 months (5 if DS seems very ready) to introduce solids. Maybe asking his pedi will help you figure it out. Good luick.

His BMs are fine and his ped is the one that said that I could start solids since he is double is birth weight and as long as he takes to the spoon.

Re: DS Gets Up At Night
Maybe he isn't getting enough formula during the day and waking up hungry?
Maybe you could increase his bottles by an ounce during the day in addtion to the solids?
If it is a growth spurt, he could be extra hungry.
I hope he goes back down for you
DD does this once in a while too, but we figure it's prob teething pain.

Re: DS Gets Up At Night
He is already getting 6 ozs. per bottle. Giving 7 ozs per bottle to a 3 1/2 month old is not a lot?

How many 6 oz bottles does he take a day?
I just checked my feeding chart from my PED-
a 3 1/2 month old can take anywhere from 26-40 ozs a formula a day, which is 4-6 servings of 6-8ozs of formula, along with 2 servings of 1-2 tbls of cereal.
Of course you would adjust this for his little tummy.
Right now DD is 7 months old and can only handle 6-7 ounces of formula a sitting, she pukes it up if it's any more, even though sometimes she is still hungry after her bottle and will eat every 2 hours.
DD does sleep 12-13 hours at night too.
It can't hurt to try anything at least once i say

Re: DS Gets Up At Night
Just out of curiousity, when is his last bottle before bed? Right before he goes down for the night or an hour or two before?

Re: DS Gets Up At Night
His last bottle is usually about a 1/2 hour before he goes to sleep.

Re: DS Gets Up At Night
Hi Lisa,
Sorry to hear Michael is keeping you up at night. It could be he's hungry, it could be he's gassy and it could be he's teething!
My Michael still goes through spurts of bad night's sleep - we just got over one back in October which lasted about 1.5 months!!!
Maybe eventually he will be able to take more in his bottle at night if you think he's hungry when he wakes... Do you think he could be teething - that is what caused most of our sleeping issues here...
Good luck! I'm no help am I? LOL!

Re: DS Gets Up At Night
Lauren, he does not keep me up all night but he just gets up once. I think he might be teething since his gums are hard.

Re: DS Gets Up At Night
Oh gotcha - sorry I misread.
Personally I think it's a hunger thing then, I think teething (although at his age could be a bit of this) or gas would give you more problems during the night... but I'm no doc and I'm far from being a pro at parenting, lol!
