ds is 2 1/2 months & has a cold; what do i do? Update: ds has rsv. spent the night in LIJ

he's coughing and sounds slightly congested..i feel so bad...anything i can do?

Update: we went to the ped last evening, and he didn't like the way ds was breathing, and he immediately sent us to LIJ to test for rsv and came back positive. I hate seeing him coughing so much and having problems breathing. I have an appt to see ped at 1130am today. I can't believe there's nothing for him to take, since it's a virus, not bacteria. How long will this usually last?

Saline in his nose. Use the aspirator (buggie suckey as DH calls itChat Icon ) and a humidifier. Most people say cool mist, but they don't work for us. We use the warm one. Put something under his mattress to raise one side, like books or something because sleeping on an incline with help with the congestion.

Hope he feels better soon!Chat Icon

When dd was that little and had trouble sleeping with her colds I let her sleep in her infant carrier. The incline was good for her breathing and she seemed more comfortable sleeping that way.

Sinceyour Ds is so young..just also watch his breathing closely..becaus eduring this season little babies are prone to RSV virus.. A contagious respiratory virus.. Chat Icon :

Saline & Aspriate alot .. I mean every hour if neccessary.
Sleep on an incline ... DS slept in a swing when he was sick.
Cool mist humidifier.

Go to the doctor to check his lungs and make sure all is clear.

saline spray for his nose, aspirator to suck the snot out, dehumidifier in his room whenever he's sleeping and a warm bath to help open his passages. DS got his 1st cold at that age too and I felt horrible for him b/c he was so congested. It will get better after a couple of days...just keep spraying and sucking.

ETA: If he will sleep in his swing that is a good idea as well...if you keep them on an incline it helps them breathe better.

Poor baby!!!!!! Will pray for him!!!!

IOn the plus side if hes home from the hosp. its a good sign its not severe...

My son was tested as neg for RSV but developed Bronchilotis ( typical side effect of RSV) and was in Good Sam hosp. for 4 days...

So Im thinking he will be ok, but it could last for up to 3 weeks.

Is he on a nebulizer?

our own LIJ experience wasn't too bad..but my dh hates lij b/c they gave his brother a clean bill of health from cancer, and said he was in remission, and not even a year later died of cancer that had spread, which they never even checked for..and mil also has cancer, which they at first misdiagnosed, causing delay in treatment..all in all dh didn't want to go there, but it's where our ped sent us, and i know one has nothing to do with the other
