DSLR help..a few questions
I've been doing some research as to which one to get...there is so much info out there!
My question is, do you think the D40 is a good place to start. I really just want it for pics of DD, my point and shoot just isn't cutting it anymore. Or, is it worth it to get the D60? My budget is no more than 600.
Dumb question..does the camera come with the battery? What will I have to buy with it besides a memory card?
Also, are the kit lenses enough for a beginner, or will I want to upgrade?

ETA: If you think there is a better choice besides Nikon-I'm all ears!

i personally am IN LOVE with my camera. I have an Olympus E-Volt 500. The one I got came with two lenses and one battery.
The price may be around $600 by now - when i got it, 2 years ago - it was $900...
ETA: MOST DSLR's come with one battery and a charger...

I think the D40 or D40X would be fine for you as would the kit lenses. The battery comes with it. I would definitely get a UV filter to protect each lens. You might also consider a speedlight, since the on camera flash is not great, but you can always add that later.

I have a d40x and i LOVE it.
the d40 is a great place to start. it comes with a battery but I would get an extra one with longer life...

I have the D40x, love it. I THINK it was replaced with the D60 .
I got a package deal, battery included and I got an extra lens- 55-200.
