quoted $9600 for a unit on the main floor, a unit on the 2nd floor (it's a cape and the 2nd floor is all open- going to be one big bedroom), and 1 smaller unit in each of our two bedrooms on the first floor. So 4 units in total. I feel like it's a bit high?

We were quoted $6800 for CAC because the upstairs is currently exposed and easy to put ducts in, and we were going to go with that. However, we have no heat upstairs and would require a decent amount of work and money to get heat up there. We also don't want to get a permit for it. If we go with ductless, we won't need a permit, and we can use the heat from the headunit on the 2nd floor. We'll keep using our steam radiators on the first floor like we usually do.

I have no idea if it’s a good price but I think it’s always best to get a few quotes to compare

We have them, they were in our house when we bought it. I had priced them out and I remember it was around $10k. This was almost 5 years ago.

When we move if we buy a house without CAC we will absolutely go with the ductless, even if it’s more $$ than CAC. I love the ductless.

do you ever run the heat from them or no? we like the idea of having them because we can shut them off in the other rooms of the house if we're not in there

My daughter has ductless units in all her bedrooms, a big unit that does most of the first floor, and a unit in the basement. They all have the capability to supply heat. She uses the basement one all the time for heat. As far as price, I believe she paid about 10,000. Last year for four units.

We have 3 units and one compressor and paid around $8k around 6 years ago. So that seems about right if you’re getting 4 units.

We use the heating feature in my DD’s bedroom because her room just runs colder than the rest of the house. I’ll also put it on on the downstairs unit for a little bit just to take the chill out of the air.

Sometimes if it is particularly chilly upstairs we’ll put the heat on but overall we don’t use the heat much. It’s worked great whenever we have though.

We have them too. I can't comment on the quote because a friend installed them for us and we have had them for 8/9 years now. We run the heat from them a few times a year (at the change of the seasons). It works well and like you said you can just use what you need. I wouldn't let the heat run all night though - it can be drying. We turn it on, shut the door, let the room warm up and then turn it off. I like it better than CAC only because each area/room is individualized. I am always cold and hate AC - I happen to work from home so I turn the one on in my office only when I really need and don't have to worry about sweating out the rest of the house during the day. Same in the bedroom, I turn it on at night to cool off the room and then turn it off before I get into bed.
